BRO's Project Chetak celebrates 47th Raising Day in Rajasthan's Bikaner
Bikaner, April 4
Project Chetak of the Border Roads Organisation celebrated its 47th Raising Day in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Saturday, marking over four decades of service in strategically important areas of the western sector.
Established in 1980, Project Chetak has played a crucial role in developing and maintaining infrastructure across Rajasthan, Punjab and northern parts of Gujarat, strengthening connectivity in border areas and contributing to national security as well as regional development.
With the motto 'Chetak ka Prayas, Desh ka Vikas', the project is among the largest in BRO in terms of geographical coverage. It currently manages over 4,000 kilometres of road network, along with 214 kilometres of ditch cum bund.
The project continues to support defence forces by maintaining vital feeder roads leading to the International Border. Efforts are also underway to upgrade these roads to National Highway Double Lane specifications.

This is fantastic news for regional development. Better roads in border areas mean not just security, but also improved access to markets, healthcare, and education for local communities. 'Chetak ka Prayas, Desh ka Vikas' indeed.
While the work is commendable, I hope the environmental impact in these fragile desert and border ecosystems is being carefully managed during construction and upgrades. Development and ecology must go hand in hand.
As someone who has traveled on some of these border roads in Rajasthan, the improvement in quality over the years is noticeable. It makes a huge difference for both military logistics and civilian travel. Kudos to the team!
47 years of service! These projects are the backbone of our strategic infrastructure. In today's times, robust border connectivity is as important as the soldiers guarding it. More power to BRO.
