BRICS transport meet passes key resolution on technology, connectivity: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Nagpur, July 11

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said the BRICS nations have adopted an important resolution aimed at strengthening cooperation in the transport sector, with a focus on future-ready technologies, innovation and sustainable connectivity.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers' Meeting here, Gadkari said the discussions reflect the grouping's commitment to advancing transport infrastructure across road, rail, aviation and waterways.

"We have an important convention and meeting here, particularly of the Transport Ministers of BRICS countries. Over the last two days, there has been a lot of discussion at different levels, and we have come to a conclusion. Our resolution has just been passed. It is very important as far as the BRICS countries are concerned, which cover 40 per cent of the world's population. We are committed to the futuristic development of the transport sector, to create cooperation, coordination and communication between the stakeholders. This resolution indicates a lot of new technology and innovation in the transport sector. It covers the road sector, railways, aviation and water transport. I thank everyone who cooperated for this mission," Gadkari said.

The 3rd BRICS Transport Working Group Senior Officials' Meeting commenced in Nagpur on July 9 under India's BRICS 2026 Chairship, bringing together senior officials and delegates from member countries to enhance cooperation in sustainable transport, resilience and innovation ahead of the Transport Ministers' Meeting.

The three-day deliberations focused on strengthening transport connectivity, sustainable mobility, logistics, digitalisation and infrastructure development among BRICS nations.

On Friday, Head of the Indonesian delegation and Consul General of Indonesia in Mumbai, Eddy Wardoyo, described the discussions as "very fruitful" and expressed confidence that the outcomes would benefit all BRICS member countries. He stressed the importance of implementing the agreements reached during the meeting rather than limiting cooperation to memorandums of understanding.

India's BRICS Chairship in 2026 is its fourth after 2012, 2016 and 2021. It is being held under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," reflecting a people-centric and humanity-first approach.

BRICS currently comprises 11 emerging economies, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, and serves as a platform for cooperation on global political, economic and developmental issues.

Good initiative but I hope this isn't just another photo-op. We need concrete outcomes, not just resolutions. The Indonesian diplomat's comment about implementation is spot on. Words are cheap, action matters.

As someone who works in logistics, this is a positive step. Coordinating road, rail, aviation, and waterways across BRICS could really boost trade efficiency. India's chairmanship is an opportunity to drive real change.

Nagpur hosting this is cool! We have the infrastructure for such meets. But I wonder how much of this tech will actually reach common people. Let's see if our highways and local transport actually improve.

BRICS is becoming a serious alternative to Western-dominated forums. With 11 nations now, the focus on sustainable transport and digitalisation is timely. India's theme of resilience and innovation is inspiring.

Happy to see India leading such dialogues. But I hope the resolutions translate to better roads and safer travel in our own country. The common citizen needs to feel the benefit of these international meetings.

🤔 While this sounds good, I remember similar promises from previous BRICS summits. Let's wait and watch. But credit where due - Gadkari ji has been
