Embraer & Adani to Build Aircraft Assembly Line in Gujarat by 2028

Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer and India's Adani Group plan to establish a final aircraft assembly line in India by 2028. The joint venture aims to set up the facility in Dholera, Gujarat, as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year. This partnership seeks to develop an integrated ecosystem for regional transport aircraft, covering manufacturing, supply chain, and training. The initiative aligns with India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and regional connectivity UDAN schemes.

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer plans to set up final assembly line in India in JV with Adani Group by 2028

Embraer and Adani Group plan a final assembly line in Dholera, Gujarat, by 2028, boosting India's regional aircraft manufacturing under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

"collaborate on opportunities in aircraft manufacturing, supply chain, aftermarket services, and pilot training - Official Release"

New Delhi, March 31

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer plans to set up a Final Assembly Line in India in a joint venture with the Adani Group by 2028, sources said.

The sources also said the company is in the process of finalizing the site of the assembly plant at Dholera in Gujarat.

Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in January this year to develop an integrated regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India.

A release had said that the companies aim to collaborate on opportunities in aircraft manufacturing, supply chain, aftermarket services, and pilot training.

It said that the collaborative industrial partnership will aim to establish an assembly line, followed by a phased increase in indigenization to advance India's Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) program, in alignment with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the UDAN regional connectivity vision.

The release had also said that the potential partnership will leverage Embraer's deep engineering and aircraft manufacturing expertise alongside Adani's aviation value-chain footprint that includes airport infrastructure, aerospace manufacturing, MRO services and pilot training.

Embraer has a growing footprint and long history in India, with nearly 50 Embraer aircraft and 11 aircraft types currently operating across commercial, defense and business aviation.

Adani Defence & Aerospace is India's largest integrated private defence and aerospace player.

As someone who travels frequently on regional routes, this is promising. The UDAN scheme needs reliable, cost-effective aircraft. A local assembly line with Embraer's expertise could make regional air travel much more accessible across India.

Adani Group is getting into everything! While the partnership sounds good on paper, I hope the focus remains on genuine technology transfer and building domestic capability, not just screwdriver assembly. The phased indigenization plan needs strict oversight.

Dholera, Gujarat is a great choice. It's developing as a major industrial hub. This project, along with pilot training and MRO services, can make India a regional aviation hub. Exciting times for engineering students! ✈️

Good step. But 2028 is still far away. Hope the timeline is met. We have seen many such MoUs signed with much fanfare that later get delayed or diluted. The proof will be in the actual aircraft rolling off the line.

Embraer makes excellent regional jets. Combining their engineering with Adani's infrastructure and scale could be a winning formula. This could potentially position India to export aircraft to other developing markets in Asia and Africa in the future.
