Blake Lively attends Met Gala hours after settling 'It Ends With Us' lawsuit

Blake Lively attended the Met Gala hours after settling her retaliation lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. The legal dispute over 'It Ends With Us' was resolved just before trial.

"The end product, the movie 'It Ends With Us', is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. - Joint statement by legal representatives"

Washington, May 5

Actor Blake Lively stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet just hours after a legal dispute involving her 'It Ends With Us' co-star Justin Baldoni was officially settled.

Appearing poised at the high-profile event, Lively wore a pastel-toned gown featuring hues of peach, purple, and yellow, complete with a bejewelled bodice and a flowing train.

The look echoed the grandeur of her Statue of Liberty-inspired ensemble from the 2022 Met Gala.

This year's theme, 'Costume Art,' accompanied by the dress code 'Fashion Is Art,' aligned with her visually expressive outfit.

The settlement resolves Lively's retaliation lawsuit against Baldoni, his company, and a PR firm, bringing to a close a dispute that began in late 2024.

The agreement was reached just two weeks before the case was scheduled to go to trial in Manhattan, as per Deadline.

The joint statement released by legal representatives read, "The end product, the movie 'It Ends With Us', is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. Raising awareness and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors and all survivors is a goal that we stand behind."

The statement was released by attorneys Bryan Freedman, Ellyn Garofalo, Michael Gottlieb, and Esra Hudson.

The statement further added, "We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognise concerns raised by Ms Lively deserved to be heard. We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online," as quoted by Deadline.

Lively's appearance also comes amid the release of 'Another Simple Favour' (2025), the sequel to the 2019 film directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Anna Kendrick, now streaming on Prime Video.

Notably absent from the gala was Lively's husband, Ryan Reynolds. However, his 'Deadpool and Wolverine' co-star Hugh Jackman attended the event alongside Sutton Foster.

Yeh sab kya hai? A big Hollywood lawsuit settled so quickly, and then she walks the red carpet like nothing happened. Something feels off. Maybe the settlement was always the plan, but this timing feels too perfect. Still, her dress was stunning—those pastel colours and the bejewelled bodice... pure art! But Ryan Reynolds not being there? Kaafi surprising.

I appreciate that both sides acknowledged the importance of safe workplaces. That joint statement was mature. But as someone who follows this case, it feels like a quick cover-up. Two weeks before trial? That's suspicious timing. Still, I'm glad the movie 'It Ends With Us' can now be remembered for its message about domestic violence rather than the legal drama. Also, Hugh Jackman attending with Sutton Foster? That's a whole other story!

From an Indian perspective, this whole thing feels like a PR circus. We have so many real issues to discuss, but here we are talking about a Hollywood actress's red carpet appearance. Not saying it's irrelevant, but the media coverage is disproportionate. Also, the fact that Justin Baldoni was accused and then settled—where's the accountability? At least the movie's message about domestic violence is important. That's the only positive takeaway.

As someone from the West, I find the timing fascinating. Settlement hours before the Met Gala? That's either brilliant crisis management or a calculated distraction. Either way, Blake Lively is a pro. Her outfit was gorgeous—very artistic, fitting the theme. But I feel for the survivors the movie was supposed to represent. This whole saga might have overshadowed the film's original purpose. Hope everyone involved can move on.
