The major casting changes have taken place in the Emmy Award-winning series 'The Pitt' as the series heads towards the third season.

According to Variety, actress Ayesha Harris, who plays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to series regular going into the show's third season.

In addition, Supriya Ganesh, who has played senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan since Season 1, will depart the show after Season 2.

The exit of Ganesh is the demand of the story, as reported by Variety. Given that the story is based on the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Centre, a teaching hospital in which it is normal for the residents to come in and out. Dr. Mohan has also spent part of Season 2 trying to determine what the next phase of her career will be once her residency ends, reported Variety.

Harris appeared in four episodes out of 15 in Season 1 of 'The Pitt' and returned for Season 2. In addition to her work in the hit HBO Max medical drama, she is known for her work in shows like 'Daisy Jones and the Six' at Amazon Prime Video and 'Glamorous' at Netflix.

Her other credits include 'This Is Us,' 'The L Word: Generation Q,' 'Abbott Elementary,' and 'Good Girls.'

Season 1 of 'The Pitt' proved to be a smash hit with both audiences and critics. Among its many accolades, the series received 13 Emmy nominations, winning awards in categories like outstanding drama series, outstanding lead actor in a drama series (Noah Wyle), outstanding guest actor in a drama series (Shawn Hatosy), and outstanding supporting actress in a drama series (Katherine LaNasa).

Noah Wyle leads an ensemble cast that includes Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez.

Actor Sepideh Moafi joined the series in its second season, playing Dr. Al-Hashimi. The series is executive produced by John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill and Noah Wyle, along with Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich, according to Variety.

The Pitt is a fantastic show, but it's a bit disappointing when a strong character like Dr. Mohan is written out. The "residents come and go" explanation feels like a weak excuse. They could have kept her on as an attending! Still, excited for Season 3.

Ayesha Harris is a brilliant actress! Loved her in Abbott Elementary. Happy for her promotion. The cast of this show is always top-notch. Can't wait to see more of Dr. Ellis.

Interesting to see the cast dynamics change. As someone who works in a hospital in Mumbai, the resident rotation part is actually very realistic! It's a teaching hospital, after all. Wishing both actresses the best.

Shabana Azeez is still in the cast, right? Glad there's still some Indian representation. The show does a good job with diversity without making it the whole plot. Hope Supriya Ganesh gets a great new project soon!

Noah Wyle is a legend! The show winning all those Emmys is well-deserved. Cast changes can be refreshing if handled well. Hope the story quality remains high. Season 3 kab aayega?
