"Audiences are embracing powerful, female-led narratives": Rani Mukerji celebrates 'Mardaani 3' success journey
Mumbai, April 28
Actor Rani Mukerji is reflecting on the success of her latest outing, Mardaani 3, which has completed 30 days on Netflix, marking another milestone in its post-theatrical run.
Speaking on the same, Rani Mukerji, in a statement, described the journey to be "incredibly emotional."
"For me, the journey of 'Mardaani 3' is incredibly emotional because it has connected with audiences everywhere, first in theatres and now across the world on Netflix. The film had a strong theatrical run, crossing milestones for a female-led action film and franchise, and today, seeing it trend among the top films for a whole month on streaming is deeply humbling. This success signifies a shift: audiences are embracing powerful, female-led narratives across platforms. It proves that content with purpose, stories about courage, justice, and real issues, can be both commercially successful and culturally impactful," she said, as per the statement.
Rani highlighted how female-led films are increasingly resonating with audiences.
"For a female-led action film to hold its ground in cinemas and then trend at the top on streaming for weeks tells you one thing clearly: audiences want stories driven by power, purpose, and truth. This kind of success signifies something very powerful to me: that stories with honesty, emotion, and a strong moral voice can travel anywhere. They can begin in a theatre and can also find a home in millions of hearts across the world," she added.
The actor further spoke about the journey of the 'Mardaani' franchise and its growing impact.
"For the Mardaani franchise films to be trending on streaming for about three months now is a signal that the franchise has been speaking about relevant subjects that matter. Shivani Shivaji Roy isn't just a character anymore; she has found her place in the hearts and minds of people across India and the world, which is why the franchise continues to receive love," she said.
Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra, 'Mardaani 3' was released in January this year and collected over Rs 53 crore nett in India.

I'm so happy to see this! My daughter and I watched Mardaani 3 together on Netflix last weekend, and we were both glued to the screen. Rani Mukerji is a true icon for Indian women. This gives me hope that our industry will make more films like this.
Good to see Bollywood finally making meaningful films with strong female leads. But I wish the industry didn't just rely on sequels and franchises. Where are the original, non-franchise female-led stories that also get this kind of success? Still a long way to go.
I'm not a huge Bollywood fan usually, but the Mardaani franchise is something else. Rani Mukerji's character Shivani Shivaji Roy is legitimately badass. No item numbers, no unnecessary romance—just pure action and justice. This is the kind of content we need more of.
It's so inspiring to see Rani Mukerji's journey. From her early days to now carrying an entire action franchise on her shoulders—she's shown what determination looks like. The fact that it's about women's safety and justice makes it even more relevant. A true role model for all of us.
Honestly, I watched Mardaani 3 on Netflix and was blown away. But let's be real—Rs 53 crores is decent, but not blockbuster level. The hype around 'female-led narrative' sometimes overshadows the fact that the film itself needs to be great. It was good, but not perfect. Still, kudos to Rani Mukerji for pushing boundaries.
