Assam preparing youth for global jobs through skill development: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, July 5

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that preparing the state's youth for global employment opportunities while building an "Atmanirbhar Assam" through skill development, employment and entrepreneurship remains one of his government's foremost priorities.

Addressing trainees during a visit to the North East Skill Centre at Gorchuk, the Chief Minister said the state government is making sustained efforts to connect Assam's youth with international employment opportunities, particularly in Japan, through Japanese language training under the CM Flight Scheme.

Chief Minister Sarma said the state government has invested around Rs 1.5 lakh per trainee in four phases under the scheme to provide education and specialised training, enabling candidates to secure employment in industries and other establishments in Japan.

During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the Centre's infrastructure and reviewed skill development and employment-oriented training programmes being implemented under the Assam Skill Development Mission.

He also interacted with trainees and instructors undergoing Japanese language training.

Later, Chief Minister Sarma visited the under-construction Integrated Directorate Complex at Betkuchi and reviewed the progress of the project, which will accommodate 54 government directorates under one campus.

He said the integrated complex would make governance more efficient and citizen-centric by bringing multiple departments under a single administrative hub.

The Chief Minister directed officials to provide essential public amenities at the complex, including a primary health centre, a canteen, drinking water facilities on every floor, high-quality sanitation facilities, dedicated parking spaces for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and bicycles, and fully air-conditioned office spaces.

He also instructed the authorities to carry out the relocation of directorates in three phases to ensure a smooth transition.

Chief Minister Sarma also inspected the Sarusajai Stadium complex and surrounding areas, where he reviewed the proposed master plan for integrated urban development.

He said the project aims to transform the locality into a modern urban hub with world-class infrastructure, better connectivity, improved public amenities and sustainable urban planning, ensuring greater convenience for citizens.

Atmanirbhar Assam is the need of the hour. But spending Rs 1.5 lakh per trainee is huge - I hope the government also tracks how many actually get jobs in Japan. We need transparency in outcomes, not just announcements. Good initiative though.

This is fantastic! Japanese companies value discipline and hard work - perfect match for Assamese youth. The integrated directorate complex also sounds promising, making government services easier for common people. CM Sarma is walking the talk on development. 🚀

As someone who has worked in skill development, I appreciate the practical approach here. But language training alone isn't enough - cultural orientation is equally important for overseas employment. Hope they include cross-cultural training before sending youth abroad.

Interesting to see Assam focusing on Japan - that's a smart move given Japan's aging population and labor shortage. The integrated directorate complex is also a great administrative reform. Hope other states learn from this model of governance. Good job, Assam!

Finally, our youth are getting real opportunities! Growing up in Assam, I saw many talented friends struggle for jobs. The Japanese language training is a game-changer - countries like Japan and Germany need skilled workers. Kudos to the CM for thinking global while building local. 💪
