Assam Guv reviews Lok Bhavan welfare schemes, stresses transparency and timely delivery
Guwahati, June 25
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Thursday reviewed the implementation of various welfare-oriented schemes and outreach programmes undertaken by Lok Bhavan and called for their efficient, transparent and time-bound execution to ensure maximum benefits reach people across the state.
Chairing a review meeting at Lok Bhavan here, the Governor assessed the progress, impact and effectiveness of the initiatives being implemented for public welfare.
He said the schemes have been conceptualised in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of people-centric governance and the principle of Antyodaya, with the objective of bringing meaningful and measurable improvements in the lives of beneficiaries.
During the meeting, Acharya stressed that welfare programmes should be implemented with greater efficiency, transparency and accountability so that the intended beneficiaries receive timely assistance.
He said governance must remain responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people. The Governor held detailed discussions on the grassroots implementation of the schemes, their outreach among targeted beneficiaries and the measures required to enhance their effectiveness.
He directed officials to intensify public awareness campaigns, improve accessibility to government initiatives and establish a robust monitoring mechanism for their effective implementation. Acharya also emphasised the need to adopt a more citizen-centric approach while executing welfare programmes.
He urged officers and staff associated with Lok Bhavan to work with dedication and commitment to achieve the broader objective of inclusive development and public welfare across Assam.
The review assumes significance as the state government continues to focus on improving last-mile delivery of welfare schemes and strengthening public service delivery mechanisms through better monitoring and administrative coordination.
Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, along with senior officers and staff of Lok Bhavan, attended the meeting and briefed the Governor on the status of the ongoing schemes and outreach initiatives.
The Governor reiterated that effective implementation, transparency and continuous monitoring would be key to ensuring that the benefits of government welfare programmes reach every eligible citizen in the state.

Finally, someone is talking about last-mile delivery! In my village in Nagaon, we still don't get pension on time. Hope the Governor ji's directions reach the block level too. भरोसा रखना है पर निगरानी भी ज़रूरी है। 😊
Interesting to see state-level reviews on welfare schemes. I work with an NGO in the Northeast, and coordination between departments is often the weak link. If the Governor's office can push for cross-departmental accountability, that'd be a game changer.
Good intentions but we've seen such reviews before. The real test is whether schemes reach the most vulnerable — the elderly, disabled, and remote tribal communities. Public awareness campaigns must be in Assamese and local dialects, not just English and Hindi. 🇮🇳
Respectfully, I'd like to see measurable KPIs and public dashboards. "Transparent" and "efficient" are buzzwords without clear yardsticks. Assam has huge potential — let's hope this isn't just another photo-op meeting.
Antyodaya is the right approach — last person first. But without strict monitoring, even the best schemes leak. I hope senior officers like S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram ji follow up regularly. Assam's development needs consistent effort, not just review meetings every few months. 💪
