Assam floods: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma thanks PM Modi for close monitoring; IAF initiate rescue ops

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for personally monitoring the flood situation in the state, while the Indian Air Force said it had rescued 458 stranded people and delivered over nine tonnes of relief supplies across flood-affected areas of Assam and Nagaland over the past 10 days.
In a post on X, Sarma expressed gratitude to PM Modi for taking regular on-ground updates and assured that the state government was working on a "war footing" to provide relief to affected residents.
"Adarniya Pradhan Mantri ji, thank you for your personal attention to this matter and taking on-ground updates regarding the #AssamFloods. Under your leadership, we are working on a war footing basis to provide relief to our people, and so far we have been able to reach every affected village," Sarma said.
The Chief Minister said power supply had been restored in most flood-affected areas, stating, "Power has also been restored to the majority of the flood-affected areas and all those rescued are sheltered in Relief Camps with proper food, medical facilities, children's area."
"We will keep working 24*7 to ensure swift response in this hour and thereafter present a comprehensive rehabilitation roadmap to assist our people, which shall be rooted in the principles of Jan Bhagidari. I once again express my gratitude to Adarniya @narendramodi ji for closely monitoring the situation and offering all assistance to us," he added.
Meanwhile, the IAF said it continues to play a key role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations despite challenging weather conditions.
"The Indian Air Force continues to demonstrate its rapid response in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations across the flood-affected regions of Assam and Nagaland. Over the past 10 days, IAF helicopters have rescued and safely evacuated 458 stranded citizens and delivered over 9 tonnes of essential relief supplies," the force said in a post on X, adding that operations were being carried out in close coordination with the Indian Army and civil authorities.
The developments came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he had discussed the prevailing flood situation with Members of Parliament from Assam and assured that the Centre was working closely with the state government to assist those affected.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), more than 4.45 lakh people across six districts remain affected by floods.
As many as 631 villages are inundated, while 184 relief camps and distribution centres are sheltering nearly 28,700 people.

Jai Hind! PM Modi personally monitoring the situation shows his commitment to every region. CM Sarma's 24/7 war footing approach is exactly what's needed in disaster management. Power restoration in affected areas is a big relief.
I appreciate the efforts but let's not ignore that over 4.45 lakh people are still suffering. Rescuing 458 people in 10 days is good, but when will flood-prone villages get permanent solutions? We need dredging of Brahmaputra and better embankments.

This is a classic case of reactive governance. Every year same story—Assam floods, rescue ops, thanks to PM. Where's the climate adaptation plan? Where's the flood-resistant infrastructure? Genuine question from someone who lived in Guwahati for 5 years.
Good coordination between Centre, State, IAF and Army. Jan Bhagidari principle is the way forward. But 631 villages still inundated is worrying. Let's hope the rehabilitation is as quick as the rescue operations 🙏
