Assam to have 7 facilities in Delhi for visitors: CM Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the state will soon have seven dedicated facilities in the national capital to cater to the needs of people from Assam visiting New Delhi, significantly expanding accommodation and community infrastructure.
Addressing reporters here, Sarma said that apart from the existing Assam House, three new complexes are being developed in Central Delhi and Dwarka to provide improved facilities for visitors from the state.
"Assam will soon have seven dedicated spaces in New Delhi for our people visiting the national capital," the Chief Minister said.
He added that one of the upcoming complexes will include a Naamghar, the traditional Assamese community prayer hall, along with a convention hall, making it a centre for cultural, religious and community activities for the Assamese diaspora in the national capital.
The Chief Minister also announced that two community‑specific facilities, Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan, are currently under construction in Dwarka. These projects aim to provide dedicated accommodation and cultural spaces for members of the Karbi and Dimasa communities residing in or visiting Delhi.
Sarma further indicated that the state government is planning another major facility for people from the Barak Valley.
"Next: most likely a Barak Bhawan," he said, signalling the government's intention to establish a dedicated complex for residents of the Barak Valley region.
The proposed expansion reflects the Assam government's efforts to strengthen support infrastructure for students, patients, government officials, job seekers and other visitors travelling to the national capital.
The existing Assam House has long served as the state's official guest house in New Delhi, offering accommodation to government delegations and eligible visitors.
The addition of multiple new complexes is expected to substantially enhance lodging capacity while also promoting Assam's cultural identity through community spaces such as the proposed Naamghar and convention hall.
The initiatives are part of the state government's broader efforts to improve facilities for Assamese people outside the state and preserve the region's cultural heritage in major metropolitan centres.

Finally! A dedicated facility for Barak Valley people 😊 So many of us move to Delhi for studies and jobs, and having a place that feels like home is crucial. The Barak Bhawan will be a lifeline for students especially. But I hope the government also focuses on better transportation connectivity from Assam to Delhi.
This is good news, but let's be practical. Building new facilities is one thing, maintaining them is another. Many state bhawan in Delhi are in poor condition. Hope the Assam government ensures proper upkeep and transparent booking systems, not just for VIPs but for common citizens too.
The Karbi and Dimasa Bhawans are a thoughtful addition! Our tribal communities often face language and cultural barriers in Delhi. These spaces will give them a sense of belonging. Good to see Assam investing in diaspora support. I've often struggled to find accommodation in Delhi for family members visiting for medical treatment. However, the CM should also address the rising airfare from Guwahati to Delhi - it's become unaffordable for many. These facilities won't help if people can't afford to travel there in the first place.
