New Delhi, January 4

The Indian Army on Sunday announced that Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has departed on an official two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, scheduled from January 5 to January 6.

ADGPI Indian Army shared the update on X, stating, "General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, proceeded on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates UAE today. The visit underscores a shared commitment to deepening mutual understanding, enhancing cooperation in areas of common interest and advancing bilateral Defence Cooperation between the two nations."

Meanwhile, on Thursday, General Dwivedi extended New Year greetings to the nation and hailed India's decision action under Operation Sindoor, saying the "operation continues even today." In an X post by the ADG PI-Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi noted that the army is undergoing a decade of transformation, stating "jointness, self-reliance, and innovation" as the pillars of India's defence strategy.

He called for indigenous technologies and new ideas to make the Army future-ready. The COAS said, "On the auspicious occasion of New Year 2026, on behalf of the Indian Army, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens. May this New Year bring happiness, good health, and prosperity to you and your families. The Indian Army is ensuring the security of the nation with utmost vigilance and determination."

"Last year, the enemy's nefarious designs were given a befitting reply through firm and decisive action under Operation Sindoor, and this operation continues even today. Along with vigilance on the borders, the Army has played a vital role in national progress through rapid response during disasters within the country and nation-building efforts," he said.

India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting the terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 individuals were killed.

Further, Army Chief General Dwivedi noted that networking and data-centricity are providing new impetus to the Army's transformation process.

Good to see our leadership actively engaging with key partners. The focus on 'jointness, self-reliance, and innovation' that General Dwivedi mentioned is the right path. We must reduce dependency on foreign defence imports. Atmanirbhar Bharat in action!

Operation Sindoor continues... Our soldiers are always vigilant. Salute to their bravery and sacrifice. While the Chief is on diplomatic duty, let's not forget the jawans standing guard in the bitter cold at the borders. 🙏

As an expat in Dubai, this is great to hear! The Indian diaspora here is massive and we always feel proud when such high-level visits happen. Hope it leads to more opportunities and even stronger people-to-people ties.

Networking and data-centricity... sounds like the Army is getting a tech upgrade. This is essential for modern warfare. Hope the UAE visit also includes talks on cybersecurity cooperation. Our enemies use tech for terrorism, we must be ten steps ahead.

Respectfully, while high-profile visits are good, I hope there is equal focus on the welfare of our soldiers on the ground. Better equipment, timely leaves, and addressing veterans' issues are just as important as diplomacy. The jawan is the real strength.
