Los Angeles, March 13
Netflix has announced a sequel to the Oscar-nominated animated feature 'KPop Demon Hunters', with Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans returning to write and direct, according to E! News.
"We're thrilled to bring back the HUNTR/X saga," said Maggie Kang, expressing pride as a Korean filmmaker. "There's so much more to this world we've built, and I'm excited to show you. This is only the beginning." Chris Appelhans added, "These characters are like family to us. We're excited to write their next chapter and push the boundaries of music, animation, and story."
Although Netflix did not reveal when the sequel would premiere on their streaming platform, they'd previously shared that the first film had amassed over 500 million views since its June 2025 debut, as per E! News.
It also became an award season favourite, picking up the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for "Golden"--categories the movie is also nominated for at the upcoming March 15 Oscars.
The sequel's release date remains under wraps, but fans can expect more updates soon. The original film's singing voices, EJAE (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey), had hinted at a possible sequel, with EJAE saying "Stay tuned" at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, according to E! News.
KPop Demon Hunters is nominated for two Oscars, with the awards ceremony taking place on March 15.

500 million views is no joke! Shows the power of good animation and catchy music. While I enjoyed it, I do hope the sequel has a slightly stronger plot. The first one felt a bit style-over-substance at times. Still, congratulations to the team!
More power to Korean cinema and animation! They are truly dominating the global scene. It's great to see diverse stories being told. Hope this opens doors for more Asian-led animated projects. Best of luck for the Oscars!
My daughter is obsessed with the song "Golden". She'll be over the moon hearing about a sequel. It's refreshing to see an animated film with such a cool, modern soundtrack. Netflix is really investing in quality animation.
Interesting. The fusion of K-pop and fantasy is a winning formula. Makes me wonder when we'll see a big-budget animated film based on Indian mythology or music with this level of global appeal. Our stories are just as rich.
Absolutely loved the first one! The animation style was so vibrant. Perfect weekend watch with friends. Hope the sequel comes out soon, the wait will be tough. Fingers crossed for their Oscar wins! 🤞
