Jaisalmer, July 16

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his day-long visit to Haryana and Punjab on Friday, will launch India's first Hydrogen train and also virtually inaugurate 75 redeveloped Amrit Bharat railway stations across the country.

At the revamped Jaisalmer railway station, the inauguration ceremony has been scheduled for 2:30 p.m., an hour ahead of PM Modi's virtual inauguration of 75 stations.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will attend the event at Jaisalmer Railway Station as the chief guest. He will be joined by Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati, BJP District President Dalpatram Hingra, BJP City President Arun Purohit, along with other public representatives and railway officials.

Speaking to news agency IANS, Senior Divisional Commerce Manager Hitesh Yadav told that the Jaisalmer Railway Station has been redeveloped at a cost of nearly Rs 140 crore.

"The station has been equipped with modern passenger amenities, including an air-conditioned waiting hall, a dormitory with 16 beds and seven rooms, end-to-end shelters on all three platforms, and improved passenger facilities," he said.

He mentioned that a pit line has been completed at the station, enabling train maintenance operations to begin.

Arrangements for outsourced parking and waiting room services have also been completed, thereby removing the inconveniences that passengers had to face earlier.

The modernisation of Jaisalmer Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is set to give new momentum to tourism and boost local trade, employment, and regional economic activities.

Notably, the inauguration of 75 Amrit Stations across 20 states marks a significant milestone under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme -- one of the world's largest station redevelopment programmes.

The stations redeveloped at a cost of about Rs 1,570 crore, have been transformed into modern, passenger-friendly facilities.

Redeveloped under the spirit of 'Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi', the stations incorporate elements reflecting local culture, heritage and architecture.

Waiting room and dormitory upgrades are great but what about security for women travelers? I've been to Jaisalmer station before and the rush is chaotic. Modern amenities are useless if basic safety isn't ensured. Also, including local heritage design is a nice touch though--keep that Rajasthani culture alive amidst the modernisation! 👏

Kudos to the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme! 75 stations at Rs 1,570 crore is ambitious but let's hope the execution matches the vision. Jaisalmer being a tourist hotspot needed this badly. The pit line for train maintenance is a smart addition--reduces delays affecting both passengers and freight. Will the cleanliness be as good as the new building though? That's the real test! Indian railways has a habit of neglecting facilities after inauguration.

Good progress but why only 75 stations? Our country has thousands of stations crying for attention. The heritage aspect is nice but what about poor families waiting on floors in smaller stations? Also, parking outsourcing better be transparent--no private contractor fleecing passengers with high charges. The Amrit scheme needs scale and speed, not just photo ops. Still, happy for Jaisalmer though! 😊
