"The visit underscores the central leadership's active involvement in shaping the party's roadmap in the state - BJP sources"

New Delhi, May 6

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit West Bengal on Thursday evening as part of the party's ongoing political engagements following party's historical win in the state.

According to the top BJP sources, Amit Shah will first attend the cabinet expansion oath-taking ceremony in Bihar and will subsequently depart directly from there to West Bengal. His visit is being seen as significant, coming at a crucial juncture when the party is actively engaged in post-election strategy and government formation discussions.

Soon after his arrival in West Bengal, the Home Minister will chair a key meeting with senior party leaders and core committee members. The meeting is expected to focus on assessing the current political situation, reviewing organisational preparedness, and aligning leadership on the next steps.

Sources further indicate that ahead of the BJP Legislative Party meeting scheduled on the 8th, Shah will hold detailed deliberations with party leaders regarding the upcoming oath-taking ceremony in the state. Discussions are also expected to cover the contours of the new cabinet, including its composition, key portfolios, and overall governance priorities.

The visit underscores the central leadership's active involvement in shaping the party's roadmap in the state and ensuring a coordinated approach to government formation and administrative planning.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shah was appointed as the BJP's central observer for West Bengal, with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi serving as the central co-observer.

Along with this, Union Minister JP Nadda has been designated as the central observer for the election of the leader of the party's legislative party in Assam, with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini as the central co-observer.

BJP created history a day earlier in the assembly polls results, with the party slated to form its first government in West Bengal and the party-led NDA scoring a hat-trick of victories in Assam.

As per the latest data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP has secured 206 seats out of 294 seats in West Bengal, outperforming its 77-seat tally in the 2021 Assembly elections. Trinamool Congress, which swept the last assembly poll by winning 212 seats, finished a distant second with 80 seats.

This is genuinely impressive for Indian democracy. A party that had only 77 seats in 2021 now has 206 - that's massive voter trust. Shah's central observer role shows the top brass is taking Bengal seriously. But I hope they remember that governance, not just politics, will matter now.

Exciting times for Bengal! After years of TMC rule, people have spoken for change. Amit Shah's visit right after Bihar oath ceremony shows strategic planning. Hope the new government focuses on job creation and infrastructure. But the opposition needs to also work constructively - 80 seats is still a respectable number.

I'm cautiously optimistic. BJP winning in Bengal is a tectonic shift, but they need to deliver on promises made during the campaign. Shah's meeting with core committee members should prioritize transparency and local issues. Also, keeping Nadda as Assam observer alongside Shah shows unified leadership approach. Let's see how the cabinet shapes up!

One small concern: while the win is historic, having Shah as central observer and also visiting for legislative party meeting feels a bit top-down. Bengal has strong local leaders who should have more say in cabinet formation. Still, better than the chaos we saw earlier. Hope proper consultation happens on May 8. 🧐

The turnaround is unbelievable! From 77 to 206 seats in one election - that's people's mandate for change. Shah coming directly from Bihar ceremony shows how important Bengal is for BJP's national strategy. Hope the new government focuses on education and healthcare which suffered under previous rule.
