Amanda Peet shares how her kids have supported her during Breast Cancer diagnosis

Actress Amanda Peet shares how her children supported her after a breast cancer diagnosis and details her treatment plan in a new essay.

"I definitely had to get myself together before including them. - Amanda Peet"

Washington DC, March 25

Amanda Peet has shared how her children have supported her amid her breast cancer diagnosis, revealing that Frances, 19, Molly, 15, and Henry, 11, have been "great" during this challenging time.

In an interview with E! News, the actress opened up about the difficulty of finding the right time to inform her kids.

Peet, who is currently working on the second season of Your Friends & Neighbors, admitted that the hardest part of her diagnosis was realizing there was no perfect moment to tell her children. "I definitely had to get myself together before including them," she said, according to E! News.

In her March 21 essay published in The New Yorker, Amanda shared that her cancer was hormone-receptor-positive and HER2-negative, meaning it is less aggressive and often easier to treat than more aggressive forms of breast cancer. She also noted that she would "only need a lumpectomy and radiation," not a double mastectomy.

Despite her children's support, Peet humorously recalled how they reacted when she tried to show them Something's Gotta Give, the 2003 film she starred in with Jack Nicholson. "They watched five minutes of it and saw me with Jack Nicholson--they turned it off. They were like, 'This is reprehensible. This is ethically dubious, and we're out,'" she laughed, acording to E! News.

However, Peet noted that her daughters have recently begun to show interest in her wardrobe, signaling a shift in their relationship. "For so long, it was like, 'What are you wearing, mom? Why are you so uncool?'" she shared. "And then all of a sudden, I was like, 'Oh, look at you. Look who's coming in my closet'," acording to E! News.

Season two of Your Friends & Neighbors premieres on Apple TV April 3.

The part about her kids rejecting her old movie is so relatable! 😂 My kids do the same thing with my 90s Bollywood favorites. Glad to hear her diagnosis is for a treatable form and that her family is supporting her.

Her openness about the diagnosis is important. In India, we still have a lot of stigma around discussing cancer openly, especially with children. More celebrities sharing their stories helps normalize these conversations.

The shift in her relationship with her daughters, from being "uncool" to them wanting to raid her closet, is such a beautiful silver lining. Wishing her all the best with her treatment and recovery.

While it's good she's sharing her story, I do wish the article focused a bit more on the medical aspects and awareness about early detection, which is crucial for us in India where screening rates can be low.

Strength to her and her family. It's never easy, but having a positive outlook and a supportive family makes all the difference. Also, the bit about the kids and the movie is too funny! Family keeps you grounded.
