Aluminium Bahrain confirms attack targets on facility, two employees injured; IRGC claims responsibility

Iran's IRGC claims drone and missile strikes on aluminium plants in Bahrain and UAE, injuring two, escalating West Asia tensions.

"effectively targeted two industries affiliated and related to the American military and aerospace industries in the region - IRGC Statement"

Manama, March 29

Aluminium Bahrain on Sunday confirmed that its industrial facility was targeted in an Iranian attack on Saturday, according to a statement reported by the Bahrain News Agency.

In its statement, Alba said that two employees sustained minor injuries, adding that the safety and security of its workforce remain its top priority.

The company further noted that it is currently assessing the extent of damage to its facilities while continuing efforts to maintain operational resilience and ensure employee safety.

"The safety and security of Alba's people remain its top priority, and the Company confirms that two of Alba's employees sustained minor injuries," the statement read as quoted by BNA.

Alba said it will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

This development comes after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in a statement, claimed responsibility for targeting key industrial facilities in the region, including aluminium plants in the UAE and Bahrain, as reported by Iranian state media, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

In the statement, the IRGC said its Aerospace and Naval forces carried out a "combined and targeted operation" using missiles and drones against what it described as industries linked to the US military and aerospace sector.

The targets named included the Emirates Global Aluminium (EMAL) facility in the United Arab Emirates and Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) in Bahrain.

"The fighters of the Aerospace and Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in a combined and targeted operation, effectively targeted two industries affiliated and related to the American military and aerospace industries in the region, including the Amal Aluminium Factory (EMAL) in the Emirates and the Alba Aluminum Factory (ALBA) in Bahrain, with missiles and drones," the statement read, as quoted by IRIB.

The IRGC alleged that these facilities are connected to American defence production, claiming they play a role in supporting US military industries, and further stated that the strikes were conducted in response to what it described as attacks by "American-Zionist" forces on Iran's industrial infrastructure.

The statement also warned that Iran's retaliation would go "beyond any level of aggression", signalling the possibility of further escalation targeting economic and military assets linked to its adversaries.

This comes amid rising conflict in West Asia, with increasing reports of strikes on strategic infrastructure across multiple countries in the region.

Directly targeting employees just doing their jobs is so wrong. 😔 These are people with families. The statement from IRGC trying to justify it by linking to US military is a stretch. This tit-for-tat is hurting ordinary workers the most. Hope cooler heads prevail soon.

The regional instability affects us all. Bahrain is a key partner for India, and many Indians work in the Gulf. Any disruption to industries like aluminium can impact global supply chains and our economy too. Our foreign policy must be very careful navigating this.

Reading this from a security perspective, the use of missiles and drones against commercial targets sets a dangerous precedent. The claim that these are "affiliated" with US military needs verification. Without transparency, it just looks like economic warfare that endangers civilians.

While I understand Iran's stance against foreign intervention, attacking industrial plants in other sovereign nations is not the answer. It only increases suffering and risks a wider war. India should use its diplomatic channels to urge restraint from all sides. Jai Hind.

The article mentions the IRGC warning of retaliation "beyond any level of aggression." This rhetoric is extremely worrying. We've seen how regional conflicts can spike oil prices and affect everything from petrol to LPG cylinders in India. Stability is crucial for our growth.
