Alka Nangia Arora takes charge as Controller General of Defence Accounts

Alka Nangia Arora, a 1991-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service, assumed charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts on Saturday, a Defence Ministry official said.
An alumnus of Garhwal University, Dehradun and IIT Roorkee, Arora has over three decades of extensive experience in defence financial management and public service, said an official statement.
Arora has tenanted key appointments in the Government of India, including as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Managing Director of Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Limited, and Additional Development Commissioner for Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles, said the statement.
Bringing over three decades of extensive experience in defence financial management and public service, she has led several initiatives in promotion of handicrafts, agricultural research, procurement policy and public finance, supported by advanced training from premier institutions, including IIM Bangalore and ISB Mohali, said the statement.
Arora began her career in the Ministry of Defence at Dum Dum Ordnance Factory in Kolkata, and since then has held key appointments in the Defence Accounts Department (DAD), it said.
She has served with all three armed forces, including as FA to Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard (ASD) in Mumbai, FA to the Army Eastern Command and head of the Area Accounts Office in Kolkata, as IFA to the Western Air Command (WAC) and Army Hospital Research & Referral (AHRR), and Principal IFA to the Air Force Headquarters, said the statement.
She has held the post of Additional and Special CGDA at the CGDA Headquarters, steering policies concerning Audit, IT & Systems, IFA & Training, it said.

Finally some positive news! A highly qualified officer with IIT Roorkee and IIM Bangalore background taking charge. This shows the government is serious about putting capable people in key positions. Wish her all the best for her tenure.
While this is a good appointment, I do hope she focuses on modernizing the defence accounts system. Our defence budgeting and procurement processes still need a lot of transparency. Let's see what reforms she brings in.
So proud to see a woman from a smaller university background (Garhwal University) and then IIT Roorkee rise to such a prestigious position. She has worked in so many different departments - from handicrafts to defence. Truly a multi-faceted leader. More power to her! 💪
Impressive resume! But I'm curious about the current state of our defence accounts department. There have been many reports about delays in pension payments for ex-servicemen. Hope Madam Arora addresses these issues on priority. She has big shoes to fill.
