Akasa Air to resume flight connecting Noida airport with Navi Mumbai; IndiGo suspends flight to Chandigarh, say airline sources
New Delhi, July 14
IndiGo airline has suspended its non-stop flight services between Noida International Airport and Chandigarh Airport, airline sources said on Tuesday.
The flight was introduced from the new airport after its inauguration last month.
Meanwhile, an Akasa Air spokesperson said that the airline's flights connecting Noida International Airport with Navi Mumbai International Airport will resume from October 1, expanding connectivity between the two emerging aviation hubs.
IndiGo began flight operations from Noida International Airport on June 15, becoming the first airline to operate from the National Capital Region's newest airport. The inaugural flight arrived from Lucknow, while the first departure from the airport was to Bengaluru.
According to an IndiGo release issued at the time of the launch, the airline plans to directly connect Noida International Airport with more than 16 destinations across India. It had also announced seamless one-stop connectivity across 14 city pairs, including Amritsar-Jodhpur, Bareilly-Bhopal, Chandigarh-Bareilly, Chandigarh-Kishangarh, Chandigarh-Pantnagar, Jammu-Jodhpur, Jaipur-Dharamshala and Kishangarh-Bhopal, among others.
The airline had said the new network would strengthen regional connectivity by improving access between Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and major metropolitan centres.
Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a major aviation and logistics hub. With the addition of NIA, IndiGo now operates from all three airports in the National Capital Region - Indira Gandhi International Airport, Hindon Airport and Noida International Airport.

Yeh airport toh Noida walo ke liye vardaan hai! Yamuna Expressway pe location perfect hai. Bas ab connectivity badhani chahiye - Chandigarh, Lucknow, Bengaluru sab jagah flights chahiye. IndiGo ne suspenc kyun kiya? Koi demand nahi thi kya? Airlines ko long-term sochna chahiye, short-term profits ke peeche nahi bhagna chahiye.
Akasa Air resuming flights to Navi Mumbai is a smart move - both cities are emerging hubs and people are moving between them for work. But IndiGo suspending Chandigarh so quickly feels like a misstep. Maybe they didn't do proper market research? The airport needs time to grow. Hope other airlines step in to fill the gap. 🙏
I'm actually disappointed in IndiGo. They announced 16 destinations from Noida airport with such fanfare, and then they pull the plug on Chandigarh within a month? This doesn't inspire confidence. Noida airport has huge potential - it's closer for many in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida than Delhi airport. Need patience from airlines.
Akasa Air's comeback is great for Navi Mumbai folks - less traffic on the roads! But I wish IndiGo would reconsider their Chandigarh suspension. The Noida airport is such a convenient option for us in NCR's eastern belt. Airlines should give these new routes at least 6 months to stabilize. Short-term decisions hurt long-term growth.
