Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat urges commitment to environmental sustainability, natural farming, and inclusive development ahead of the state's 66th Foundation Day.

"Natural farming is not merely an agricultural method but a means to protect the environment and ensure a healthier future for coming generations. - Governor Acharya Devvrat"

Gandhinagar, April 30

As Gujarat prepares to mark its 66th Foundation Day on May 1, Governor Acharya Devvrat has called for a collective commitment towards building a developed, environmentally responsible and socially cohesive state.

In his video statement, the Governor extended greetings to citizens of Gujarat living in the state, across India and abroad.

He paid tribute to the leaders and personalities associated with the formation and development of the state and said their contributions continue to guide Gujarat's progress.

"Saints, warriors and great personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati have given Gujarat a distinct identity at the global level," the Governor said.

He noted that the principles of truth and non-violence, administrative unity and knowledge traditions linked to these figures have shaped the state's development journey since its formation on May 1,1960.

The Governor said Gujarat has, over the decades, established itself as a "global role model" of development through sustained effort and public participation.

"The state's progress must now be aligned with environmental sustainability and public health priorities alongside economic growth," he noted.

Emphasising agriculture, he urged farmers to adopt natural farming practices.

"Natural farming is not merely an agricultural method but a means to protect the environment and ensure a healthier future for coming generations," he said, adding that cow-based natural farming can play a significant role in maintaining soil health and ecological balance.

The Governor also referred to Gujarat's role in national development under the vision of 'Developed India @ 2047', stating: "The state has made notable contributions in sectors such as green energy, semiconductors, industrial development and emerging economic activities."

Calling for unified action, he said development goals could be achieved through coordinated efforts across all sections of society.

"We must work together to build a Gujarat that is both prosperous and sensitive, where every citizen is healthy, secure and empowered through the principles of collective effort and inclusive development," he said.

I appreciate the mention of inclusive development and public health. But I hope the state government also focuses on improving healthcare infrastructure in rural areas and not just on big cities like Ahmedabad and Surat. True development is when every village has access to basic amenities. ๐ŸŒฟ

Natural farming is the need of the hour, no doubt. But telling farmers to switch without proper subsidies, training, and market linkages is just wishful thinking. The government needs to walk the talk if they want Gujarat to be a global role model in green growth.

Interesting speech. I live in the US but keep close tabs on Indian state developments. Gujarat's industrial progress is impressive, especially in semiconductors and green energy. But I hope the environmental commitments aren't just for show โ€” pollution in industrial belts needs serious attention.

Proud to be a Gujarati! ๐Ÿ™Œ But I wish the Governor had also talked about water conservation and the issue of salinity in coastal areas. These are critical for sustainable agriculture in the state. Still, it's a positive message for Foundation Day. Happy 66th, Gujarat! ๐ŸŽ‰

The Governor's emphasis on collective effort is spot on. Development can't be top-down โ€” we need community participation, especially in waste management and afforestation. Also, would love to see more focus on renewable energy adoption in households, not just big industrial projects.
