'Agni-4' Ballistic Missile successfully test-fired
Balasore, August 6
Medium Range Ballistic Missile 'Agni-4' was successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha on Thursday.
The launch validated all operational and technical parameters, and the test was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Agni-4 is a two-stage, surface-to-surface missile propelled by a solid-fuel rocket motor.
It is capable of striking targets at a distance of up to 4,000 kilometres.
Earlier this year, India also conducted successful trials of the Agni-Prime and Agni-3 missiles.

Great to see DRDO and Strategic Forces Command working seamlessly. The fact that we're also testing Agni-Prime and Agni-3 shows our strategic preparedness. Security and peace go hand in hand.
Amazing achievement! The solid-fuel two-stage design makes it faster to launch and more reliable. Our defence scientists are truly world-class. 👏
While I appreciate the technical progress, I hope our leadership is equally focused on diplomacy and reducing regional tensions. Missiles should always be the last resort, not the first response. Let's use our strength to foster stability.
Impressive consistency from Indian defence programs. This test validates the reliability of the Agni series. It's a reminder that India remains a key player in maintaining regional security.
This is what 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in defence looks like! But let's also remember to invest in our soldiers' welfare and modernising conventional forces alongside strategic weapons. Overall, very proud of our scientists! 🙌
Reliable deterrence is essential in today's world. The successful launch from Odisha highlights excellent coordination between different defence agencies. Good job!
