Adam Sandler promises to make '50 more movies' before he's 'dead'
"I promise to everyone here tonight, I will make at least 50 more movies before I am dead - and at least 25 of them will be good. - Adam Sandler"

Mumbai, Jan 13

Hollywood star Adam Sandler has vowed to "make at least 50 more movies before (he is) dead" and added that "at least" half of them will be “good".

In his lighthearted acceptance speech for the Career Achievement honour at AARP's Movies for Grownups Awards, Sandler thanked his wife, Jackie Sandler, for "staying with me even though no part of my body is where it used to be."

He then added: "I don't know how much time I have left - 60, 70 years. 80 tops, maybe 90 if I start working out and taking creatine. (Regardless), I promise to everyone here tonight, I will make at least 50 more movies before I am dead - and at least 25 of them will be good."

Before he picked up the award, Sandler, whose film debut was the 1989 comedy Going Overboard, received an introduction from his longtime friend, actor and director Henry Winkler, before he stepped onto the stage to receive the Career Achievement award, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Sandler began his light-hearted speech at the ceremony, which strives to tackle ageism in the entertainment industry by celebrating the work of creatives over the age of 50. In his comedic voice, he gave a shout-out to "my silver hair daddies and salt-and-pepper mommas".

He then quipped, "The Fonz is in the house! A lot of people said to me, Sandman, I think the AARP Award means that you're old now.' To that I say, 'It's not because of this award, I got 10 other reasons ... "

Sandler continued: "...When I sit down, it sounds like a semi-truck driving over a family of lobsters. Number three, my tongue only has one taste bud left (and) everything I eat now tastes like oatmeal except oatmeal, which tastes like Vaseline. Number four, the font on my phone is so big [that] my texts can be read by anyone with a window seat on a Delta flight."

He added: "At my high school reunion, I spent most of the night saying, 'I'm so sorry to hear that.' None of my toenails are the same colour anymore. If I take my socks off, it looks like a pack of Crayola crayons.

"When I receive the Academy Awards screeners, even though I press play on 44 different movies, I can only stay awake for a combined total of eight minutes. For all of you who are getting all the accolades, I must say I love the first 30 seconds of all of your work."

Sandler, who has daughters Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 17, with Jackie, then thanked his family for "supporting my goofiness for all these years, I love you."

I grew up watching his movies on cable TV in Delhi. "Happy Gilmore" and "Big Daddy" were our weekend rituals. Even if half are good, that's a lot of entertainment for us fans. More power to him!

Respectfully, I wish he'd focus on quality over quantity. Some of his recent Netflix films felt a bit lazy. We know he can act brilliantly, like in "Uncut Gems". Hope the "good" 25 are truly great.

His jokes about aging are so relatable! "Font on my phone is so big" – my dad says the same thing. It's nice to see Hollywood acknowledging artists over 50. We need more of that here in Bollywood too.

50 more movies is a tall order! But the man has work ethic. From "Going Overboard" to now, it's quite a journey. Wonder if any will shoot in India? That would be awesome.

Love his dedication to family. Shouting out his wife and daughters is sweet. In the end, that's what matters most, na? The movies are a bonus. Wishing him good health to complete his promise!
