Actor Ryan Phillippe has joined the cast of '9-1-1: Nashville' for the show's upcoming second season, reported Variety.

Season 1 of the '9-1-1' spinoff is currently airing, with the season finale set to air in May. It was renewed for Season 2 back in March. Phillippe will appear in a series regular role.

His character is described as "as a brilliant, iconoclastic detective who moves to Nashville from New York. A seductive bad boy with a past, he'll stir up all kinds of juicy drama with our first responders while leading an investigation into a mysterious criminal tormenting Nashville on a biblical scale."

The cast of the show currently includes Chris O'Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, LeAnn Rimes, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, Hailey Kilgore, and Hunter McVey.

This will not be the first time Phillippe has starred in an ABC drama. He previously appeared in the shows 'Big Sky' and 'Secrets and Lies' at the broadcast network.

The series is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear and Rashad Raisani serve as executive producers, along with O'Donnell, Brad Buecker, Brad Falchuk and Angela Bassett. Raisani serves as showrunner.

Never watched this show but the cast looks good. Chris O'Donnell is a solid actor. If it's anything like the original 9-1-1, it should be entertaining. Might give it a try on Hotstar.

"Tormenting Nashville on a biblical scale" - that's quite the tagline! Sounds intense. I enjoy procedural dramas, so will definitely check out Season 2. Hope the Indian broadcast isn't too delayed.

As someone who lives in India but loves American TV, I find it funny how every detective from New York is a "brilliant iconoclast". That said, Phillippe is a good actor and the 9-1-1 franchise is usually reliable. Looking forward to it!

Good news for the show. A strong cast addition usually helps in later seasons. I wonder if they'll ever do an Indian adaptation of 9-1-1? Our emergency services have so many incredible stories that could be told. Just a thought!

I respect the actor's work, but I have to say I'm getting a bit tired of the same old American drama formulas. "Seductive bad boy" stirring up drama? It feels a bit predictable. I wish Indian audiences had more access to diverse global content beyond these mainstream US shows. The production quality is great, but the tropes are wearing thin.
