Actor Raghava Lawrence hints at political entry, says major announcement soon
Chennai, June 14
Actor-choreographer Raghava Lawrence has hinted at a possible entry into politics, saying that he will soon make an important announcement regarding his future plans.
Lawrence met a large group of fans at his residence in Uthandi, Chennai, on Sunday, where he discussed his proposed political journey and sought their views before taking the next step.
Addressing the gathering, the actor said that the present political and social situation had prompted him to seriously consider entering public life. He added that his intention is to work for the welfare of people without expecting anything in return and that public opinion remains important to him while making such a decision.
Lawrence also revealed that a larger meeting with his supporters would be organised in the coming days, during which he plans to share more details about his political roadmap.
Later, while speaking to reporters, Lawrence confirmed that a formal announcement regarding his political future would be made soon.
"I will soon announce my political journey. I will share important details related to it with my fans in the coming days," he said.
When asked about the performance of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, Lawrence praised its administration, stating that it has been functioning effectively. He specifically welcomed the closure of TASMAC liquor outlets and commended the School Education Department for its performance.
Lawrence is one of the most popular names in South Indian cinema. Beginning his career as a choreographer, he went on to establish himself as an actor, director and producer. He is best known for the successful Muni and Kanchana horror-comedy franchise, which emerged as one of the most successful film series in Tamil cinema. He also made his Bollywood directorial debut with Laxmii in 2020.

I'm actually happy he's praising TVK government's closure of TASMAC outlets. Finally someone in entertainment speaking about real issues like liquor addiction in Tamil Nadu. At least he's starting by acknowledging good policies. Hope he brings that same energy if he joins politics. 👏
He's a good actor and a decent human being from what I've seen, but I'm skeptical. Politics requires administrative skills and a deep understanding of governance. Just being popular with fans doesn't guarantee success. Remember what happened with Vijayakanth and Sarath Kumar? Hope he's serious and not just doing this for publicity before a film release.
It's good that he's consulting fans before making any decision - that shows he values democracy. But I hope he doesn't just become another vote bank politician. Tamil cinema already has too many actors-turned-politicians. If he genuinely wants to work for people's welfare like he says, then welcome! Otherwise please stick to making horror comedies. 😅
His movies entertain millions, but politics is about responsibility, not entertainment. I appreciate that he's taking input from supporters before jumping in - that's more transparent than most politicians. But honestly, the Muni franchise was iconic, please don't abandon cinema completely! Tamil cinema needs more original horror-comedies like Kanchana. 🎬
