Washington DC, June 30

Film producer Jennifer Todd has been appointed producer of the 17th Academy Governors Awards, succeeding Jennifer Fox, who had overseen the event for the past seven years, according to Variety.

Todd, a former governor of the Academy's Producers Branch, will lead the prestigious ceremony for the first time.

The Academy will present Honorary Oscars to actor Glenn Close, filmmaker Ridley Scott and animator Floyd Norman during the event. Producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will receive the Irving G Thalberg Memorial Award.

Announcing the appointment, Academy CEO Howell Taylor praised Todd's experience.

"We are thrilled to have Jennifer leading this year's Governors Awards," Taylor said. "Her expertise in producing will undoubtedly create a beautiful evening celebrating the artistry of this year's exceptional honorees."

Responding to the announcement, Todd said she was honoured to produce the event.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to produce this cherished Academy event," she said.

"I'm looking forward to honouring the remarkable achievements of five artists with a tribute that reflects the lasting cultural impact they have made," she added, according to Variety.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Todd has produced several acclaimed films, including Christopher Nolan's breakthrough feature Memento, which earned two Academy Award nominations. Her other producing credits include Boiler Room, Must Love Dogs, Prime, Across the Universe, Alice in Wonderland, Celeste and Jesse Forever and the Austin Powers franchise, according to Variety.

Todd is also familiar with the Academy Awards telecast, having co-produced the 89th and 90th Oscars alongside Michael De Luca. Both ceremonies received Emmy nominations in the outstanding special class program and outstanding variety special (live) categories.

The Honorary Award recognises individuals for lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the motion picture arts and sciences, or outstanding service to the Academy. The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award honours creative producers whose body of work reflects consistently high-quality motion picture production.

The 17th Academy Governors Awards will take place on November 15 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood, in partnership with Rolex, according to Variety.

But why are we always reading about Hollywood appointments? What about our Indian film industry? We have legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan who deserve global recognition too.

Glenn Close getting an Honorary Oscar is long overdue. She's been snubbed for decades.

Honestly, who cares about some American awards ceremony? We have our own Filmfare and National Awards that celebrate REAL cinema. 🤷‍♀️

Nice to see the Academy giving proper respect to Ridley Scott. The man has directed so many iconic films like Gladiator and Blade Runner. 🎬

Meanwhile our Bollywood awards are a joke - nepotism and politics everywhere. At least the Oscars have some credibility left. Jennifer Todd seems competent.

Glad to see Floyd Norman being honoured. He broke barriers as an African-American animator at Disney. Truly inspiring! 🌟
