New Delhi, April 1

Members of the 8th Pay Commission have begun consultations on the proposed salary revision for central government employees and pensioners.

A key meeting is scheduled in Dehradun for April 24, where representatives of employee unions, pensioners' associations, and other stakeholders are expected to present their views on pay structures, allowances, and pension-related issues.

Members of the commission are expected to visit various other parts of the country well to hold similar meetings in order to get better acquainted with the problems faced by employees and retirees. The feedback collected from these meetings will help the Commission decide how much salaries, pensions and benefits should be revised in the future.

The Commission said that if any group wants to share their views, they need to request an appointment in advance.

The notice, dated March 30, read, "A team of the 8th Central Pay Commission shall be visiting Dehradun, Uttarakhand on April 24. Interested stakeholders, including central government organisations/institutions and unions/associations desirous of interacting with the Commission at Dehradun, may kindly submit their request seeking an appointment on or before April 10."

After that, the Commission will inform selected participants about the exact venue and timing of the meeting. "Venue details and meeting schedule shall be intimated subsequently," the statement said.

Anyone who wants to attend the 8th Pay Commission meeting must send an email request by April 10. Only those who apply before this deadline will be considered for the meeting.

After that, the Commission will review the requests and inform selected participants about the exact venue and timing. All official details and updates related to the process are available on the Commission's website.

Employee unions, pensioners' associations, organisations, and even individuals can send their views on salaries, allowances, pensions and other service-related issues.

The Commission has created an online portal where people can submit their suggestions in the form of memorandums until April 30. It has also shared a questionnaire to collect structured inputs.

The deadline to send these inputs is April 30. After that, the Commission will review all the feedback collected from both meetings and written submissions before preparing its recommendations.

As someone married to a government employee, I appreciate the consultative process. The online portal is a good step for wider participation. However, the timeline feels tight - April 30 for all submissions? Hope they genuinely consider the inputs and not just tick a box.

Good to see they are traveling to different parts of the country. Problems of an employee in Dehradun or Guwahati can be very different from someone in Delhi. HRA and city allowances need a complete overhaul based on current rental markets, not old classifications. 👍

While I support fair pay for government staff, I hope this commission also considers the fiscal burden on the exchequer. Salaries and pensions are a huge part of government spending. The revision must be balanced and sustainable. We taxpayers are also stakeholders.

The 18-month deadline is crucial. Last time, there were delays which caused uncertainty for millions. Hope they stick to the schedule. The focus should be on simplifying the pay matrix and reducing disparity between different grades. Jai Hind!

Interesting process. The requirement for an appointment request by April 10 seems a bit bureaucratic. What about the common employee who isn't part of a big union? Hope the online portal is user-friendly and their individual voices are heard too.
