New Delhi, June 21

More than 8.30 lakh National Cadet Corps cadets and other staff on Sunday joined the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations. The Indian Coast Guard also marked the day with activities reflecting enthusiasm and patriotic fervour, said a Defence Ministry official.

The 8.30 lakh NCC participants included cadets, Associate NCC Officers, Permanent Instructors, and staff, said a statement issued by the Ministry.

They participated in synchronised yoga sessions conducted at over 5,000 locations nationwide, reaffirming the organisation's commitment to promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic development among the youth, it said.

These yoga sessions were conducted in historic sites including the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, Bodh Gaya in Bihar, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Namo Ghat in Varanasi, Millennium Park in Kolkata, Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, Marina Beach in Chennai, and the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.

The NCC continues to play a pivotal role in nation-building by nurturing disciplined, confident, and socially responsible citizens. Through its various activities, NCC inculcates the values of fitness, self-discipline, and collective well-being.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) marked the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with great enthusiasm and nationwide participation through its flagship initiative, "Yoga Sangam 2026", said a statement issued by the Defence Ministry.

Aligning with the Yoga Day 2026 theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," the celebrations underscored the transformative role of yoga in fostering holistic health, resilience, and well-being across all age groups, it said.

Commemorating the day, coordinated yoga sessions were conducted across all ICG ships and establishments across the country.

Thousands of Coast Guard personnel and their family members participated in the yoga sessions led by trained yoga instructors featuring a comprehensive blend of asanas (yogic postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation practices, said the statement.

During the sessions, special emphasis was placed on yoga techniques that can be seamlessly incorporated into daily routine to enhance physical fitness, mental clarity, emotional balance, stress management, and operational resilience for personnel serving in challenging and high-pressure environments.

Impressive numbers! 5,000 locations across India shows incredible organisation. I've seen NCC cadets in action before — their discipline is remarkable. Yoga Day celebrations like this set a great example for other countries.

Love that Coast Guard included yoga for stress management! Our jawans and sailors face immense pressure, and yoga can really help their mental well-being. "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" theme is perfect for our times. 🙏

Nice initiative but let's also focus on making yoga accessible in rural areas. Many villages still don't have trained instructors. The numbers are great but quality matters too. Still, a step in right direction! 👏

Synchronised yoga at 5,000 locations with NCC cadets — that's mind-blowing logistics! India truly leads the world in Yoga Day participation. The discipline of NCC combined with yoga's calmness is a powerful combination.

Sabarmati riverfront, Bodh Gaya, Wankhede Stadium, Marina Beach — what a beautiful list of locations! Makes me want to join a yoga session at one of these places. Our ancient practice meeting modern infrastructure — perfect! ✨
