5.3 magnitude earthquake hits Pakistan
Islamabad, June 26
An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 struck Pakistan on Friday evening, as reported by the National Center for Seismology.
In a post on X, the NCS said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 75 kilometres.
"EQ of M: 5.3, On: 26/06/2026 17:18:49 IST, Lat: 30.273 N, Long: 69.710 E, Depth: 75 Km, Location: Pakistan," the post said.
Pakistan is considered one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world due to its geographical location along the boundary where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide.
Regions such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan lie near major fault lines, making them particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. Punjab and Sindh, located along the northwestern edge of the Indian Plate, remain vulnerable.

Felt a slight jolt in Delhi too. The earth really is restless lately. Hope the damage is minimal in Pakistan.
That's a shallow quake at 75km depth. Even though magnitude is moderate, it can cause damage in areas with poor construction. India should share seismic data with Pakistan for better preparedness. Science should have no borders.
Having lived through the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, I know how terrifying these can be. Hope people in Balochistan and KPK have adequate warning systems. 🤲
Good that India's NCS is monitoring this. We should also focus on earthquake preparedness in the Himalayan region. Build retrofitting should be mandatory in all seismic zones.
Mother Nature reminding us all that we're just passengers on this planet. Sending good vibes to our neighbors. 🕊️
As a geologist, I'd note that the Indian plate is constantly pushing northward. This collision zone will always be seismically active. The focus should be on early warning systems and resilient infrastructure across the region.
