Speaking to reporters, Piyush Goyal described the return as a "Joyous day" for the families of the fishermen, who had been stranded in Iran amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Armenia has been facilitating the evacuation of Indian nationals in Iran.

On April 2, the MEA said that more than 1,200 Indian nationals have been safely evacuated from Iran, out of which 996 moved to Armenia.

Addressing an inter-ministerial briefing in the national capital, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the evacuation is being carried out through Armenia and Azerbaijan with the Centre closely coordinating efforts on the ground.

According to Jaiswal, "Some 1,200 Indian nationals have been evacuated, of which 845 are students."

He added, "996 moved to Armenia and 204 to Azerbaijan, from where they are being helped by the MEA."

This is heartwarming news. Can't imagine the stress these fishermen and their families must have been under. Thank you to all the officials working day and night. Hope the remaining Indians are also brought back soon.

Good diplomatic move. Strengthening ties with countries like Armenia is smart for such situations. But we also need to think long-term - why are so many of our citizens getting stranded in conflict zones? Need better advisories and support systems before they travel.

As someone living abroad, it's reassuring to see India actively helping its citizens in distress. The coordination through multiple countries (Iran, Armenia, Azerbaijan) seems complex but well-executed. Kudos to the teams on the ground.

The article says 1200 evacuated, with 996 to Armenia. That's a massive operation. Hope our fishermen get some rest and support now they're home. The journey sounds exhausting - 20 hours to Armenia and then flights back.

A joyous day indeed for their families! 🎉 This is what "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) looks like in action, with Armenia helping us. We should remember this friendship.
