Thirty tea garden workers from Assam's Dibrugarh district have begun a pilgrimage to Ayodhya and Varanasi. This initiative was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to their estate, where he interacted with workers and plucked tea leaves. During his Assam trip, the PM praised the workers, calling tea the "soul of Assam," and addressed a political rally ahead of state elections. 30 Assam tea garden workers embark on pilgrimage to Ayodhya and Kashi following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit and interaction.

"PM Modi wanted that tea workers should see other parts of the country. - Rajan Lohia"

Dibrugarh, April 3

A group of 30 tea garden workers from the Manohari tea estate in Dibrugarh have set off on a pilgrimage to Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya and Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the estate on April 1.

Speaking about the initiative, Rajan Lohia, Trustee of the Late Jhabarmal Lohia Charitable Trust, said, "PM Modi wanted that tea workers should see other parts of the country. Under this initiative, 30 tea workers are departing for Ayodhya and Kashi... PM Modi arrived at the tea garden, and he plucked the leaves. He gave us this idea."

This comes just a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a tea garden in Assam's Dibrugarh, interacted with workers, and plucked tea leaves during his visit to the poll-bound state.

PM Modi praised Assam's tea garden workers for their hard work and contribution, calling tea the "soul of Assam" after interacting with workers in Dibrugarh.

In a post on X, PM Modi shared images and wrote, "We are very proud of the efforts of each tea garden family. Their hard work and perseverance have enhanced Assam's pride. Here are some more glimpses from a tea garden in Dibrugarh."

"Tea is the soul of Assam! The tea from here has made its way across the world. This morning in Dibrugarh, I went to a tea garden and interacted with women working here. It was a very memorable experience," the post reads.

"The plucking of tea leaves was followed by the women talking about their culture and of course a selfie!" PM wrote in another post.

Prime Minister Modi also addressed a public rally in Assam's Gogamukh and emphasised the development of Assam under the BJP regime and described the previous ten years as an "era of service and good governance."

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in achieving a "hat-trick" of victory in the state.

The polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will be held in a single phase on April 9, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

While the pilgrimage is a nice gesture, I hope this is part of a larger, sustained effort to improve the lives of tea garden workers. Wages, healthcare, and education for their children are the real issues that need permanent solutions, not just pre-election visits.

Assam's tea is indeed its soul. My morning doesn't start without it! Jai Shree Ram! It's heartwarming to see the workers who make this possible get a chance for darshan. May they have a safe and blessed journey. 🚂

The timing is... interesting. Elections on April 9, and this trip happens right after the PM's visit. Feels more like a political stunt than genuine seva. Let's see if such initiatives continue after the votes are counted.

As someone from the Northeast, it's great that our people are getting national attention. Ayodhya and Kashi are important for many here too. Hope they enjoy the trip and come back with wonderful memories! 🤗

Interesting cultural insight. The connection between a PM's visit, a pilgrimage, and the election cycle is something you don't see everywhere. The workers look happy in the pictures, so that's a positive.
