Home Guards Create 12,000 Seed Balls for 12 Years of Modi Govt

Jamnagar District Home Guards prepared 12,000 seed balls to mark 12 years of the Narendra Modi government. The seed balls contain seeds from various native tree species like drumstick, banyan, and peepal, made with natural black soil and cow dung manure. They will be handed over to the Jamnagar Forest Department for planting before the monsoon season. Commandant Girish Sarvaiya said the initiative supports PM Modi's vision of a 'Green Revolution'.

12 years of Modi govt: Jamnagar home guards prepare 12,000 seed balls to boost environmental conservation

Jamnagar, June 14

In a special gesture to mark twelve years of the Narendra Modi government, the Jamnagar District Home Guards undertook a special initiative to boost environmental conservation efforts in the vicinity.

The Jamnagar District Home Guards prepared more than 12,000 seed balls. These seed balls were made from seeds of various tree species, including Drumstick (Sahjan/Sargava), Lemon, Khair, Goras, Tamarind, Harmo, Banyan, Jamun, Peepal, and Gulmohar.

Natural black soil and cow dung manure were used to prepare these seed balls.

The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) made valuable contribution to the initiative.

The seed balls will be handed over to Jamnagar Forest Department, where they will be planted and utilised in various areas before the monsoon season to expand green cover and give new direction to environmental conservation.

Girish Sarvaiya, Jamnagar District Home Guards Commandant, while speaking to IANS, said that they participated in the celebrations marking the long tenure of Prime Minister Modi, whose governance has been shaped by development, trust, and public welfare.

He noted that the Jamnagar Home Guards family, in collaboration with the Forest Department, is contributing to PM Modi's vision of 'Green Revolution'.

As part of this effort, they are creating 12,000 seed balls to commemorate these 12 years.

Sarvaiya added that the seed balls are made by mixing tree seeds with soil and cow dung and shaping the mixture into small, round balls (resembling laddus).

These will be handed over to the Forest Department to be planted in suitable locations before the rains arrive. When it rains, seeds will emerge from these, and in time, they will grow into large trees.

Love the use of cow dung manure and local soil - very traditional and sustainable. But 12,000 seed balls for 12 years feels a bit symbolic. We need lakhs of trees planted every year to tackle Gujarat's deforestation problems. Still, every seed counts! 🌱

Seed balls are great - they protect seeds from birds and ants, and the cow dung provides nutrients. But let's be honest: this is a tiny gesture. Modi's government has done some good environmental work (like International Solar Alliance), but tokenism like this shouldn't distract from larger issues like pollution in our rivers.

As a Jamnagar local, I'm proud to see our Home Guards doing this! 🌿 The city needs more green cover - it's getting so hot these days. Using seed balls before monsoon is perfect timing. Would love to see schools and colleges join such drives too.

Interesting approach - I've seen similar seed ball projects in Australia! But 12,000 balls is just scratching the surface. India needs massive reforestation programmes, not just symbolic gestures tied to political anniversaries. The real test will be survival rate of these seeds.

Great use of local tree species like Khair and Goras - they're drought-resistant and perfect for Saurashtra's climate. But I wish the government would focus more on protecting existing forests rather than just photo ops with new plantations. Van Mahotsav should be year-round, not just one season.
