India slams Pakistan resolution on Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi, Aug 7 : India Thursday strongly objected to a resolution passed by the Pakistan Senate on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it amounted to 'gross interference in its internal affairs'.
“We have seen reports in the Pakistani media that the Senate of Pakistan has passed a resolution about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Navtej Sarna said here.
“Such a resolution amounts to gross interference in our internal affairs. The Senate should attend to issues where it has a locus standi,” he said.
According to Daily Times, a Pakistani daily, the Senate Wednesday “regretted the recent reports of an economic blockade imposed by Hindu extremists against the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir” and voiced “concerns over attacks on Muslims and their properties by Hindu extremists”.
Jammu and Kashmir has been reeling under violence and protests since the state government's controversial decision two months ago to transfer - and then cancel - 40 hectares of land to a board managing the Amarnath Hindu shrine.
