Food and Healthcare

By Som Dutt: 'In the times when our immune systems are compromised on a day-to-day basis by the air we breathe and the food we eat, it is reassuring to know that there is at least one food which can actually reverse the effects of toxins and that food is Noni', according to a release from the World Noni Research Foundation, Secundrabad, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

Noni is a scientifically tested and validated, refreshing, rejuvenated and invigorating natural food-supplying fruit in the world. Scientifically known as Morinda citrifolia, noni has emerged as a world food having multifaceted properties useful for human healthcare. It is native to India but very popular fruit in Western World. The doctors in the west recommend its juice as a co-prescription to their patients.

Morinda is drived from two Latin words: Morus, which means Mulberry, and indicus, which means Indian. Hence its English name is Indian Mulbery. Its species name citrifolia indicates the resemblance of the foliage to that of Citrus fruit species. Thus, its origin is from India and it is very much mentioned both in the Ayurveda and the Siddha of the Indian Systems of Medicine.

Noni is known in different names like hog apple, cheese fruit, lade, pain killer tree and Indian mulberry. It has various names in different vernacular languages. As a natural gift to human beings, noni is a rich source of vitamin A,C,E,B,B2, B6,B12, calcium, iron, niacin, folic acid, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, magnese, molybdenum, sodium, potassium, carbohydrates and naturaceuticals.

The Indian noni fruit is most powerful, health-giving food supplement formulated from nature for our more healthy and balanced body. Noni is a liquid food supplement concentrated and balanced for more energy, vitality and well-being. Harvested from the pristine Forest of India, noni provides 150 neutraceuticals. A dose of 15 ml of noni juice, known as Noni Gold, provides important nutrients needed for health and well-being. The Indian Noni is a liquid diet made up from noni fruit and some Indian herbs. The herbs used in the Indian Noni are meticulously harvested and processed without using any fumigants, toxic flavourings or commercial fruit juice.

The Indian Noni detoxifies our body, rejuvenates the cells, helps body systems function normally, protects the body from viral and bacterial attacts, relieves pain as an analgesic, supports better absorption and food and medicines, manages body weight, facilitates sound sleep, purifies blood, regulates proper cell function, regenerates damaged cells, strengthens immune system, relieves pain without side-effects, promotes self-healing mechanism, relieves stress and helps us stay calm and relaxed, improves digestion and enhances our well-being by improving alertness, memory and concentration. Noni protects our skin, hairs and scalp. It reduces chances of premature onset of age-related diseases like arthritis, heart ailments, diabetes and strokes.

The Indian Noni is easily consumed. It is prepared by adding 150 ml noni juice to 200 ml of water. About 30 ml noni is enough for an adult and 20 ml for a child per day. It is also helpful if used externally. By diluting 5 ml of noni with 20 ml of water is a good refreshing agent if sprayed it on our face or body parts. Its spray on body gives a refreshing feeling for a long time.

Noni removes uric acid, lactic acid, excess cholestrol, fat deposit, dead tissue and chemical accumulated toxins in our body. The toxins are discharged through the circulation system by urination and stool. Noni is a superior anti-oxidant and it helps the body to get rid of the harmful free radicals, decreasing the rate of degeneration of cells and tissues. It is particularly useful in protecting against peripheral disorder like phlebitis, varicose veins, high blood pressure, visual dysfunction, arthritis, allergies, atherosclerosis, cataracts, diabetes, heart diseases and other degenerative conditions. It also helps in healing of wounds, curb inflammation, promotes youthful looking skin, fasten recovery from injuries, improves sluggish memory and inhibits damaging microbes from infection.

Noni removes toxic layers on cell walls, enlarging the pores of cell walls. Owing to enlargement, larger chains of amino acids or proteins enter into cells to feed us better. Since noni is detoxifying in nature, all cells resume their communication and are rejuvenated with more strength.

Thus, cellular activity of noni enhances the effect of medicines in our body. Noni fruit is a rich source of proxeronine which combines with enzymes in our body to form an essential substance known as xeronine, which is very essential for our health.

The xeronine combines with many proteins in our body requiring xeronine to function. Many proteins need the help of xeronine to get operational in a positive direction. Noni fruit is a god pain-reliever with the help of coxenzymes, COX-1 and COX-2.

Phytonutrient damacanthal found in noni is inhibitory to some precancerous cells. The proxeronine, a key component found in noni, is sent to sick cells within our body by Golgi apparatus and reticuloendothelium.

These sick cells attract proxeronine and an enzyme proxeroninase. This interaction creates xeronine, the cellular enhancer.

Noni helps fortify and maintain cell structure. Thus, it promotes immune system by either enhanciang an already functioning system or by stimulating sluggish system. A number of physicians and health professionals have reported that patients suffering from life – threatening diseases – AIDS, cancer, heart ailment etc. – experience astonishing health improvement using noni juice.

The extract of noni fruit in various concentrations inhibit production of alpha, a tumor necrosis factor or better known as an endogenous tumor promoter. Besides, noni contains a polysaccharide–rich substance that inhibits toxic effects in adapted cultures of lung cancer cells.

Noni stabilizes blood pressure since it contains scopoletin, which dilutes blood vessels and results in low blood pressure. It helps stimulate production of nitric oxide in our body. The nitric oxide produced in our body allows the blood vessels to dilute more easily and be more elastic. And xeronine system promotes a healthy cell structure within the circulatory system.

For diabetics , noni helps improve beta cells in pancreas having malfunctioning. Noni has a very low glycemic index and hence it reduces the risk of chronic conditions of diabetic patients.

The noni as an adaptogen helps restore body’s internal organs to function normally. Thus, it helps in increasing the production of thyroid hormone and bring the body back to normal balance.

Noni can treat cancer either by acting directly on cancer cells by its eytotoxic properties or by creating a hostile environment by immunomodulati on and antiangiogenesis. Noni fruit also has cytotoxic activity against breast carcinoma cell dine and a colon carcinoma line. Besides, some active compounds in noni extract affect several genes of apoptotic pathway and cell cycle, causing inhibition of growth of cancer cells. (PTI Feature)
