British woman seeks truth about daughter's death in India

London, Dec 23 : A British woman is running from pillar to post to find the cause of her daughter's death days after she married her Indian boyfriend in India.

Sandy Hunter, 50, has just returned from India after securing guardianship of her daughter Charlotte Bending's son from a previous marriage.

Charlotte began a relationship with Jitendra Singh, from Kurukshetra in Haryana, who was living and working in Plymouth for the past six years.

Singh has a natural son, Gorkarak, while Nasrullah is the Charlotte's son from her earlier marriage to a person now said to be in custody.

Hunter said Charlotte went to India with Singh and the children to get married. On Sep 8 she was informed that her daughter had died and was not told the cause of death.

Since then she has been trying to find out the circumstances of Charlotte's death. Hunter said she got no help from either the Indian or the British authorities. Charlotte was buried in Kurukshetra even as Hunter tried to get the body home.

Last Friday, Hunter flew down to India where Singh voluntarily handed Nasrullah over to her. Both returned to her home Sunday. She has now been told an inquest into Charlotte's death may take up to two years.

Hunter told the Plymouth Evening Herald: "What I've been through is complete and utter hell - my daughter dying, my family being stuck out there, still not knowing why she died. Why were her children not with her when she was buried? Why have we all been pushed to one side as if we didn't matter? It makes me very angry. I will keep fighting to find out what happened to my daughter."
