Karur, Dec 2 : Members of the AIADMK district unit today staged a demonstration in front of the bus stand at Tharagampatti, near here in protest against the inordinate delay in executing drinking water supply schemes for the hamlets in Krishanarayapuram and Kadavoor panchayat unions of this district.
AIADMK Organizing secretary and former minister M Chinnasamy, who led the stir said party supremo J Jayalalithaa, when she was the Chief Minister had sanctioned Rs 49 crore for providing drinking water supply to more than 540 habitations of these two panchayat unions.
Alleging that the DMK government after coming to power was deliberately delaying the project for the last 30 months, the AIADMK leader said people in those areas were suffering due to non-implementation of the drinking water schemes.
Despite repeated representations, the authorities were keeping mum to implement the water schemes, he added.
