Chennai, Dec 1 : The Madras high court today urged the leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu and others representing various downtrodden community to take a vow that under no circumstances would they involve the student community to indulge in caste-based politics in the law college and for that matter in any educational institutions.
While passing interim orders on a batch of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petitions filed by group of lawyers, seeking the court to streamline the ugly situation that happened in the Dr Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai on November 12 following the student group clash, the first bench comprising Chief Justice A K Ganguly and Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla, directed the authorities to take necessary steps to reopen the college on January 19, 2009.
Since the semester examinations were abruptly stopped midway due to the students clash, the Prinicipal, the Director of Legal studies (DLS) and the Controller of Examinations are directed to arrange for holding the remaining examinations from December 10, the Judge said.
Before commencing the examinations, the Judge also directed the authorities to arrange for a parent, teacher and students meeting and instil confidence in them that every effort will be taken at the behest of the order of the court and that it will be ensured that normalcy would at any cost be restored while holding the examination and on the reopening of the college itself on and from Jauary 19 next year.
The bench further directed that strict instructions be issued for regular attendance of all faculties in order to ensure taking of classes for all the five year and three year students without any default.
Attendance should be the rule and authorised absence could be an exception. It would be the resposibility of the Principal that regular attendance of the teachers is properly regulated and verified by closely monitoring the attendance registers, the bench added.
