Lahore, Dec 1 : Former captain Rashid Latif has urged national cricketers contracted with the IPL and the ICL to discontinue playing in India following allegations that the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks were from Pakistan.
''It's important for a cricketer to play professional cricket but there are times when the country should come first,'' Latif said.
Several top Pakistan cricketers are involved in T20 leagues in India. Skipper Shoaib Malik, Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul are linked with the IPL while former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and pacers Mohammad Sami and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan are contracted with the rebel ICL.
Latif hoped that the respective governments will resolve their differences and added that Pakistan players should discontinue playing for their respective till the time, the political situation between the two countries normalise.
The Indian government had accused Pakistan of training the terrorists who had attacked Mumbai, killing almost 200 people.
