AIFF to go ahead with elections Dec 23
New Delhi, Nov 22: Despite All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi being critically ill, the elections slated for Dec 23 will be held as scheduled as they cannot be postponed, it was announced here Saturday.
The executive committee that met here Saturday under vice president Praful Patel decided to go ahead with its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect the new officials. But it was decided in principle that no one would submit nominations for the the president's post.
The 62-year-old Dasmunsi, who suffered a severe heart attack in October, is stable but lacks cerebral functioning.
In such a situation, some of the executive committee members wanted to postpone the AGM but since the constitution did not allow this, they decided to go ahead with the elections.
The executive committee also decided that Salt Lake and Barasat Stadiums will host the 30th Federation Cup matches in Kolkata from Dec 4-21.
The committee also decided to extend the contract of National Coach Bob Houghton till the 2011 Asia Cup.
