Chirag, Sporting finish 2-2

Kolkata, March 7: Missing chances aplenty, Chirag United had to be rest content with a 2-2 draw against city rivals Mohammedan Sporting in the I-League here Saturday.

Subair Muritala Ali and Shankar Oraon scored for Chirag, but Sporting saved the blushes with strikes from Suraj Mondal and Mike Okoro in the match at Barasat's Vidyasagar Krirangan.

After squandering a couple of early chances, Chirag went ahead in the 17th minute through Muritala who found the target off a Daniel Bidemi square pass.

Three minutes later, Chirag were distinctly unlucky when medio Denson Devadas' shot from top of the box hit the crosspiece.

Chirag maintained the pressure in the first session, but failed to increase the margin.

Sporting improved their display by several notches post breather, and Mondal netted the equalizer in the 58th minute with a flick following a Eugene Gray pass.
But Chirag regained the lead in the 75th minute with Oraon foxing Sporting custodian Akhtar with a diagonal left footer.

However, Okoro, who otherwise was off-colour, drew parity four minutes later by unleashing a splendid back volley.
After 18 rounds, Chirag now lie eighth with 21 points, while Sporting are placed 11th culling 16 points.
