10 dead in Howrah bus accident

Kolkata, July 4 : At least 10 people, including three children, died Saturday after a minibus skidded off a bridge and fell at least 50 feet below on a railway track in West Bengal's Howrah district, said the police. Over 40 people have been injured.

The accident took place around 3.45 pm Saturday, when the speeding minibus, heading towards Howrah town from Nazirganj Saturday, lost control and fell off the Bankim Setu Flyover across railway lines heading out of Howrah Station.

Police superintendent of Howrah, NK Singh has confirmed the death at least 10 people, including three children.

“Some died of electrocution,” the police said.

Seven out of the 40 injured are critical. All of them have been admitted to Howrah Zilla Hospital.

A railway rescue team has joined the operation.

Several long distance trains were delayed by the incident.
