Batsmen put Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal on top

New Delhi, Nov 25: Dominating performances by batsmen helped Saurashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh to get control of their matches on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Super League fixtures Wednesday.

Riding on centuries from Parvinder Singh (108) and Tanmay Srivastava (109), Uttar Pradesh made a mammoth 536 for seven in a Group B match in Lucknow. In reply, Delhi were nine for no loss at stumps.

At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Chirag Pathak (118) and Sagar Jogiyani (103) hit centuries as Saurashtra declared their first innings at 650 for nine. In reply, Bengal were 27 for one.

In a group A match in Dharmasala, Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik's decision to declare the innings at 293 for eight backfired as Bhaven Thakkar (83), Vinit Indulkar (71) and Mukesh Sharma (68 n.o.) played crucial knocks to give Himachal Pradesh a first innings lead as they ended the day at 291 for four.

Brief scores:

At Dharmasala: Tamil Nadu 293/8 dec. (R. Ashwin 107 not out, Dinesh Karthik 70; Vikramjit Singh Malik 3/79). Himachal Pradesh 291/4 (Bhaven Thakkar 83, Vinit Indulkar 71, Mukesh Sharma 68 batting)

At Mohali: Gujarat 160 all out. Punjab 361/5 (Taruwar Kohli 100 batting, Rahul Sharma 95).

At Delhi: Railways 187 all out. Mumbai 248/8 (Rohit Sharma 94 batting, Wasim Jaffer 75; Murali Kartik 3/70).

At Poona: Maharshtra 105. Karnataka 473/4 (K.B. Pawan 152, G. Satish 141, Amit Verma 101 batting)

At Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh 536/7 dec (Parvinder Singh 108, Tanmay Srivastava 109, Suresh Raina 69). Delhi 9/0.

At Kolkata: Saurashtra 650/9 dec (Chirag Pathak 118, Sagar Jogiyani 103, Cheteshwar Pujara 84). Bengal 27/1
