Dravid is fourth highest run getter in Tests

Kanpur, Nov 25 : Former India captain Rahul Dravid hit a classy 144 in the second Test against Sri Lanka here Wednesday and became the fourth highest scorer in Tests.

Dravid now aggregates 11,182 runs at an average of 53.50 from 136 Tests and surpassed Allan Border's aggregate of 11,174 runs from 156 Tests at an average of 50.56.

Sachin Tendulkar(12,917), Brian Lara (11,953) and Ricky Ponting (11,345) are the top three run-getters in Tests.

Dravid's 144 off 226 balls was his 28th Test hundred - his third against Sri Lanka.

The following are the other statistical highlights of the day:

India's total of 642 (their seventh highest in Tests) is their second best against Sri Lanka, next only to the 676 for seven at Kanpur in 1986-87.

Rangana Herath's figures of 5/121 are his best on foreign soil - his first instance of five-wicket haul against India is his fourth overall.

Yuvraj Singh has registered his fourth fifty against Sri Lanka - his 8th overall.

Yuvraj has posted his first half-century at the Green Park in Kanpur.

V.V.S. Laxman's 41st fifty in Tests is his fifth against Sri Lanka.

Gautam Gambhir (167), Virender Sehwag (131) and Rahul Dravid (144) have provided the third instance when the first three batsmen have recorded hundreds in the same Test innings for India. Australia and India have performed the feat three times each.

In the 132-year history of Test Cricket, the only occasion when the top four batsmen registered hundreds -- Dinesh Karthik (129), Wasim Jaffer (138 not out), Rahul Dravid (129) and Sachin Tendulkar (122 not out) -- was against Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2007.

Five Indian batsmen have posted fifty-plus - the fourth such instance for India against Sri Lanka.

Sreesanth has posted his fifth duck in Tests - his first against Sri Lanka.

Herath became the first bowler to capture five wickets in an innings four times in 2009.

Herath's figures against India are his second best, next only to the 5 for 99 against Pakistan at Colombo PSS. He is the first bowler to bag five wickets in an innings for Sri Lanka at Green Park.

Dilshan is the second batsman dismissed by Zaheer Khan off the first ball of an innings. He had taken Javed Omar's wicket off the very first ball of each innings of the 2007 Mirpur Test against Bangladesh.
