'I am working on my Hindi' : Jacqueline Fernandez
With the release of her debut film ' Aladin' , Jacqueline Fernandez has made it clear that she is in Bollywood ' to stay' . In Kolkata to launch D' damas World Gold Council' s new ' Fantasia' line of jewellery, the Sri Lankan beauty chats up with India Blooms correspondent Sreya Basu on her career and why she won' t ever make her love life public
You are the brand ambassador of D' damas Fantasia. Are you a jewellery person in real life?
I am not a jewellery freak, but I love wearing light jewellery…I can' t even think of becoming a moving jewellery box all decked up with pounds of gold. That' s why, I chose to be the brand ambassador of Fantasia, because this collection consists of light 18 carat jewellery pieces that are funky yet traditional…something my type.
Once you were quoted as saying-' I am made for glamour' . Are you very conscious about your looks?
I didn' t mean that for sure (smiles). What I meant was that, since childhood I wanted to be an actor. But I didn' t get much scope in Bahrain (where I grew up) and Sri Lanka. I took up modeling, but that was not exactly what I wanted to do. Now, in India, I have got an opportunity to prove myself as an actor, though I never thought of becoming a Hindi film heroine.
Were you a film buff since childhood?
I was definitely not a Hindi film buff. My father is a huge Amitabh Bachchan fan, so I was aware of Bollywood…but never thought I will get my break here.
Are you repenting?
Not at all. I am thankful to be a part of the Hindi film industry…and getting a break opposite Amitabh Bachchan is an icing on the cake.
You must be facing quite a lot of difficulty in Bollywood?
I am really freaked out with the language…I am working on my Hindi. I don' t want to speak accented Hindi…I should speak the language so fluently and spontaneously that everyone will think that I am born and brought up in India only.
What kind of roles are you looking for in Bollywood?
Anything that suits me. However, at the moment I don' t think I will be able to handle very intellectual characters. My personal preferences at the moment are comedy and romantic films.
Do you want to continue with your modeling even after joining films?
Yes…as it is now-a-days most film stars are into product endorsements. But I will cut on the numbers…will do only a couple of them at a time. Like at the moment, I am endorsing D' damas World Gold Council collection and Vatika hair shampoo.
We heard recently Bipasha Basu gave you a lot of tips on fitness?
(Giggles) Actually I met Bipasha at a gym in Mumbai recently. She is such a warm and friendly person! Or else, who will want to waste her time to give fitness tips to a debutant!
Are you a foodie?
I eat to live, not the other way round.
What do you like to wear on a day-to-day basis?
I try to be mostly in casuals. But my preference changes according to the occasion. I think I can carry both eastern and western outfit without any hassles.
Who do you think is the best dressed actor in Bollywood?
Has to be Amitabh Bachchan.
Are you single?
I really don' t want to answer that question. I am just one-film-old in Bollywood, but by this time, have understood that I can' t afford to make any sensitive aspect of my private life, public.
