National Law Day awards for Hooda, Justice Pasayat
New Delhi, Nov 18 : The Indian Council of Jurists has selected former Supreme Court judge Justice Arijit Pasayat and Haryana Chief Minister B.S. Hooda among others for its National Law Day awards, 2009.
Council convener Adish C. Aggarwala said President Pratibha Patil has consented to give away the awards during a two-day function at Vigyan Bhawan, beginning Saturday.
Aggarwala said among others who have been selected for the awards, instituted by the council, is Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, for his sterling contribution for the advancement of the science of jurisprudence.
"While Hooda has been selected for his untiring contribution to the promotion of fair and effective administration of legal affairs in Haryana, Justice Pasayat, presently heading the Competition Appellate Tribunal, has been chosen for his lifetime contribution to the cause of administration of justice," Aggarwala said.
Others selected for the award are senior advocate K.V. Viswanathan (civil law), corporate lawyer Shardul Shroff, advocate Ramesh Gupta (criminal law category), advocate Ajit Mishra (among young lawyers), and Vijay Goel (commercial law).
