Mulayam levels land grabbing charges against Mayawati, releases CD
Lucknow, Nov 8 : Accusing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of grabbing people's lands, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and General Secretary Amar Singh today demanded a high-level probe into the incident of intimidating an SP legislator in this regard.
The leaders released an audio CD in which two officers of the CM's secretariat were heard threatening a member of the legislative council (MLC) Sunil Singh, asking him to hand over his mall avenue residence to the state government.
''This is a serious matter and the people of Uttar Pradesh should know about such designs of the Chief Minister and her close officers,'' Mr Yadav said while addressing a joint press conference here.
Ms Mayawati's passion for the lands and properties has been well known, but threatening others to further her motives was something serious and should be repulsed by everyone, he added.
Claiming veracity of the CD, Mr Yadav and Mr Singh said it could be checked by any forensic lab of the country. Sunil Singh, who was present in the press conference, said in the larger public interest, he got the conversation with the two officials taped.
The SP leaders said the way officers close to the CM were abusing their powers was also brought to the notice of UP Governor B L Joshi, who had been given a memorandum from the party asking for his intervention.
Mr Amar Singh also levelled charges against the integrity of the station officer of Babupurwa police station of Kanpur, who was handed over the probe against the SP General Secretary on the basis of an FIR.
He said the SO, in collusion with the land mafia had threatened a lady of Allahabad in order to grab her property.
They pointed out that grabbing of properties in UP was order of the day and the officers were working on behest of the Chief Minister to execute her evil designs.
Mr Yadav also alleged that the kins of the Chief Minister were engaged in the similar practices in Noida, where they had threatened a hotel owner in the same way. ''It should also come under the probe gamut,'' he said.
