Sonography centres by medicine doctors banned

Kolhapur, Nov 8 : The district administration has imposed a ban on Ayurvedic and Homeopathic doctors from running sonography centres in their hospitals.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Dakshta committee, looking into the pregnancy diagnosis techniques, headed by district collector Lakshmikant Desai last evening, according to civil surgeon R K Niturkar.

Dr Niturkar said it was also decided that only a radiologist should run a sonography centre and that the person could not run more than two sonography centres. It was made compulsory for female gynecologists to conduct sonography in their own hospitals. If any illegally run sonography centre came up, it would be sealed, he said.

These decisions have been taken keeping the increasing cases of female foeticide in mind.
