Chandigarh, Nov 8 : The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Haryana grew by an estimated average of 9.3 per cent at constant prices during the period 2000-2001 to 2007-08, with base year 1999-2000.

This has been revealed in the report on GSDP released by the state Department of Economic and Statistical Analysis here today.

According to the report, while the primary sector of the state economy recorded an average annual growth of 3.4 per cent, the secondary and tertiary sectors notched up an annual average progression of 9.9 and 12.5 per cent, respectively during this period.

This indicates that the secondary and tertiary sectors are growing at a rate faster than the primary sector. The per capita income of the state at current prices increased from Rs 23,229 in 1999-2000 to Rs 58,531 in 2007-08, indicating an increase of 152 per cent, whereas at constant prices, it increased from Rs 23,229 in 1999-2000 to Rs 39,796 in 2007-08, recording a growth of 71.3 per cent.

The per capita income of India, at current and constant prices, increased by 109.6 and 53 per cent, respectively, during this period.

The report shows that the pace of economic development of Haryana was much faster than that of India. It has also been observed that the state economy is gradually shifting from agriculture to the manufacturing and services sectors, which is a sure sign of healthy economy.
