Andhra Pradesh CM holds review meeting on drought

Tirupati,Nov 8 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah held a review meeting on the drought situation prevailing in Chittoor district at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Senate hall here today.

Mr Rosaiah, who arrived on a five hour visit to the temple town was received at the Renigunta Airport by Assembly speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy, District in-charge minister Dharmana Prasad, Ministers Galla Galla Aruna Kumari and P Ramachandra Reddy, Tirumala- Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) Chairman D K Audikesavulu Naidu and other officials.

Later, Mr Rosaiah proceeded to Padmavathi guest house, where he received a memorandum from Tirupati Municipal Councillors seeking conduct of Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) elections.

After a brief halt at the guest house, he chaired the District review meeting on drought situation and discussed various issues, including developmental works currently underway in Tirupati and Chittoor with State Ministers, party MLAs, leaders of TDP and Congress and district administration officials over the present situation in the district.

The Chief Minister enquired about the loss estimated by the district administration and submitted to the two-member drought central team which visited six mandals in the district recently.

He asked the district administration to give utmost priority to drinking water works in the drought affected mandals,instead of spending more money on transportation of water.

Congress leaders from Nagari Assembly constituency, handed over a Demand Draft of Rs 26 lakh to Mr Rosaiah towards Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).

A DD for an amount of Rs 50,000 was also handed over to the Chief Minister by R R Degree College Correspondent Baggidi Gopal towards CMRF.

Mr Rosaiah visited a photo exhibition and went round the stalls of Indira Kranthi Padakam (IKP) and District Water management Association (DWMA) and interacted with the women groups at Sri Venkateswara Employees Training Academy (SVETA).

Before leaving for Hyderabad, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for Sri Padmvathi hospital near the Renigunta Airport, to be jointly constructed by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and SVIMS.
