SPF legislature party meeting resolves to continue talks to resolve

Imphal, Nov 7 : A meeting of Secular Progressive Front (SPF) legislature parties was held today at the office chamber of Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh.

N Biren Singh, Spokesperson, Minister, Youth Affairs and Sports, said the meeting discussed the development in the state in the aftermath of the July 23 Khwairamband Keithel killings.

The SPF government is formed by Congress which has 30 MLAs and CPI which has three MLAs.

The meeting appreciated the efforts made by the government to hold talks with the organisations holding different kinds of stir and agitations. It also noted that the government was trying to continue the talks.

It discussed the closure of educational institutes in the state from September 9 last as a part of the stir. The members decided to work hard to ensure opening of schools and colleges from Nov 9 onward, N Biren said.

To ensure smooth opening of educational institutes the members decided to take up precautionary measures and provide security to the institutes. The protestors were also appealed to allow opening of schools.

To effectively implement the decisions the members resolved to involve all political parties and the people of the state. Guardians were also appealed to send their children from November 9 onward.

The students bodies of the state, All Manipur Students’ Union AMSU, Manipuri Students Federation MSF and Kangleipak Students Association KSA have stated that right to life is more important than right to education and there was no point in becoming highly qualified persons as people are killed in fake encounters repeatedly in the state by troops and police.

All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation (AMSGO) , Senior Citizens, Manipur, All Tribal Students’ Union (ATSUM), Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) have appealed to all to bring an amicable solution to the matter as the academic life was seriously affected.

Working Committee of Apunba Lup (WCAL) had launched a stir in the state protesting fake encounter killings specially after July 23 incident of Khwairamband Keithel, Imphal. Protestors and agitating students want the CM to resign and involved police personnel be dismissed.
