AIADMK labour wing stages demo in support of TASMAC workers

Chennai, Nov 7 : Braving heavy downpour, the opposition AIADMK today staged a protest demonstration, urging the Tamil Nadu government to regularise the services of TASMAC employees, engaged in the sale of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

Members of 'Anna Thozhir Sangam', party's trade union wing, led by Headquarters secretary K A Sengottaiyan, staged the demonstration in front of the state Guest House.

They were to observe a day's fast, but due to heavy rains, dispersed after staging the demonstration, demanding that the government should regularise the services of TASMAC employees, majority of them, belonging to 'Anna Thozhir Sangam'.

Addressing the agitation, Mr Sengottayan said the party would continue the stir if the state government did not come forward to concede the demand.

He said more than 36,000 TASMAC employees were members of 'Anna Thozhir Sangam, affiliated to the AIADMK.

Party supremo J Jayalalithaa, in a statement, yesterday, had said the state government was earning a revenue of Rs 12,000 crore from TASMAC. But there was no job security for the employees. Their salary has also not been increased beyond a level, she said.
