Smooth polling in Rajasthan Assembly by-elections
Jaipur, Nov 7 : An estimated seven per cent of the total 4.1 lakh electorate in Rajasthan cast their votes in by-elections to Todabhim(ST) and Salumbar(ST) Assembly seats during the first two hours of polling today.
The polling began at 0800 hrs on a sedate note at 480 polling booths in both the tribal dominated constituencies in Karauli and Udaipur districts and was progressing smoothly under adequate security arrangements, an election office spokesman said.
There was a shortlived problem at one polling booth each in the constituencies, following snags in the Electronic Voting Machines(EVMs), but the polling officials instantly changed the machines, he said.
An estimated seven per cent voter turnout was reported during the first two hours from both the constituencies. A total 4.1 lakh voters are eligibile to cast their vote.
The polling will decide the fate of 13 contestants -- seven in Todabhim(ST) and six in Salumbar(ST).
The by-election was necessitated, following the resignation by Dr Kirodi Lal Meena, Independent(Todabhim) and Mr Raghibir Meena, Congress(Salumbar).
They quit their seats after being elected to the Lok Sabha in May.
